Baren Digest Tuesday, 23 July 2002 Volume 20 : Number 1904 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Myron Turner Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 06:42:29 -0500 Subject: [Baren 18775] Theory: how groups like baren develop on the web There's an internet company called extropia which takes its name from the process by which sums become greater than their parts. They have a page giving a short history of how science and then social science developed ideas of how things move from 'entropy' to 'extropy' and they apply it to the web. Their short history of 'extropy' called to mind some posts of a few weeks ago on how baren grew and developed The URL is: http://www.extropia.com/extropia_explained.html Myron ------------------------------ From: G Wohlken Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 08:34:18 +0000 Subject: [Baren 18776] Re: Art idea for geocaching Does anybody here do geocaching? I thought of an interesting idea. Wouldn't it be neat to put a tiny woodcut in with the stash in the cache container? It could be rolled gently and placed into a little tube. Some of the cache contents are becoming unique as people try to come up with original ideas. My son from Pennsylvania brought a box of his "trades" from 27 geocache finds and people over there in the mountains are leaving some intriguing treasures. I would think artists could have a lot of fun with this. The nice thing about woodcuts is you can make a lot of them.
