Baren Digest Saturday, 24 August 2002 Volume 20 : Number 1936 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: G Wohlken Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2002 10:00:37 +0000 Subject: [Baren 18961] BiroBidjan Portfolio and Color Query Thank you, Sharen, for pointing out the BiroBidjan Print Portfolio which was immensely interesting. Lots to read about the artists and their ideas. I would like to hear about color from people. On another list it was mentioned that black can be made by printing red over green. I have never tried this because I assumed it would make a gray but now I would like to try. Are there other unexpected colors that can be made by mixing? What experiences in color mixing can Bareners share? Anyway, I'm a little hesitant to do "horn-tooting", but for anyone interested and who may be living near these areas, I have work up in several shows around the country (excuse possible cross-posting): Washington Printmakers' Gallery (up just for a few more days), National Small Works 2002, WPG Juried Exhibition (my piece is not up online, but you'll see some lovely works there!) Art Institute and Gallery in Salisbury, Maryland (up through September) Art Institute & Gallery - Art Exhibition Calendar and Northern National Art Exhibition at Nicolet College Gallery, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin best wishes Sarah Hauser ------------------------------ From: Charles Morgan Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2002 09:12:02 -0700 Subject: [Baren 18964] Re: BiroBidjan Portfolio and Color Query Look at Quiller's book, Color Choices. I think you will find all you want there. He goes through the major brands of paints, with the trade color names of each brand, in oil, water color, and acrylic, and he places them all on a big color wheel, showing complementaries, etc. The book has wonderful exercises using just one color and varying intensities, using a color and its complement, etc. Try to find it in your local library. Or you can order it as it is still in print. Cheers ...... You gave good advice and have certainly given me much to think about. But, has anyone any idea of how much to charge per day, if I decide to go ahead with this?
