If I go down that weekend I would have to leave L.A. on Sunday so I might have to miss the reception; what time will it be? Too bad it's not on Saturday evening. It would be nice to browse the L.A. County then go to an art opening... Kat I would like to see your exhibit also, Palos Verdes is very close to where I will hang my hat when I go to L.A. I probably will go to L.A. the weekend of December 6th. Since P.V. is so close to where I will be staying we could even rideshare into town. My Mom will be visiting me from Dallas at the same time so she would welcome the opportunity to visit her Mother and sisters in Torrance. ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Mon, 7 Oct 2002 08:21:55 -0700 Subject: [Baren 19466] RE: Brand Gallery > Maria: Where is the gallery you're exhibiting in; also the > address and name > of the gallery. Brand Library and Art Center 1601 West Mountain Street Glendale California 91201 (818) 548-2051 Reception/Awards Ceremony Sunday December 15 from 3 to 5 PM The space is absolutely beautiful, probably one of the better art spaces I have seen; gorgeous park setting outside, inside skylights, tall ceilings, ample viewing, lots of walls...They hold a yearly Works on Paper competition, for those printmakers interested, you can call the gallery and get on their mailing list. It is one show you will not want to miss, if you can help it. It runs through Dec. 21, 2002 and includes work by all the 20th Century noted Mexican artists, Orozco, Rivera, Siqueiros, Tamayon et al, specifically focusing on the acute social and political issues spawned by the Revolution of 1910 - 20. Powerful work and potent scenes - and the craftsmanship - you will salivate. Wish I could see the show. Shunga is especially interesting, I heard a fabulous lecture at Japan Society last year by Timon Screech about the 'floating world' of the yoshiwara pleasure quarters in Edo Japan. I wrote an article for Baren suji, if I remember! You must give us a report later in October. best, April >From: Charles Morgan Date: Sun, 06 Oct 2002 09:49:12 -0700 Subject: [Baren 19458] Japanese Woodblock Print exhibition For those of you near Victoria, B.C., the Victoria Art Gallery is having what appears to be two interesting exhibits. 1) Ukiyo-e: Images of a Floating World -- October 11 until November 24 2) Erotica in Japanes Prints - October 11 until November 24 ------------------------------ From: Printmaker Date: Tue, 08 Oct 2002 10:10:26 +1000 Subject: [Baren 19471] Silk Cut Lino Sharri asked "Josephine - or whoever can answer this question - where can we purchase Silk Cut linoleum? I looked at the site, but did not see a place to purchase just that product, I'm not interested in the kit (it has those speedball inks, and since I'm an ink snob, ---- and, since I have brayers and cutters, oh never mind.)" Hi Sharri It can be bought at most art stores around here (in Aus), but usually only in one foot squares (30cm sq). It can also be bought mail order from Melbourne etching supplies in that size and in rolls, I gave their url in the original post. I cant remember at the moment where you are sharri, but you could try e-mailing duraloid, the makers, and asking where to get it near you. They are based in Europe. I do NOT have a print in LACMA, eeek, I only wish in my lifetime! I have a print in the Brand Gallery yearly Works on Paper exhibition. Anyhow, Patsy, Dec 6-8 I will be peddlin' in Tempe, Arizona so I can't come early. But the L.A. gang is always welcoming (pssst, ask Bea to make soup!). I will definitely come for the opening of the Brand exhibit on the 15th of December, at which time I would LOVE to meet Bareners and take a looksie at the Museum as well. Maria PS Oh, I did get Best of Show in the recent Boulder City Art Festival, does that count for something? :-) <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Maria Arango Las Vegas, Nevada, USA http://www.1000woodcuts.com maria#mariarango.com <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> ------------------------------ From: Aqua4tis#aol.com Date: Tue, 8 Oct 2002 02:06:44 EDT Subject: [Baren 19473] Re: I wish! bravo maria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------------------ From: Shireen Holman Date: Tue, 08 Oct 2002 08:45:07 -0400 Subject: [Baren 19474] crazy We are all going completely crazy here. (This is unrelated to the subject of woodblocks). I live in the Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C., and people seem to be being killed left and right. Yesterday a boy was shot and critically injured walking into school after his aunt had dropped him off. They hope he'll live, but they aren't yet sure. Everyone's afraid for their kids going to school, going to the bus stop - things we assumed were safe. And our kids are terrified, and what can we tell them to reassure them? Back to trying to concentrate on cutting blocks......
