Baren Digest Wednesday, 13 November 2002 Volume 21 : Number 2026 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "April Vollmer" Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 08:38:52 -0500 Subject: [Baren 19813] Crudeness Barbara, and pigment dispersion users: What we are doing in moku hanga is printing with watercolor and gouache. So if you want more information you could check some watercolor recipes. They tend to be very specific about proportions, my recipe is very crude. I think it works because the paper accepts the pigment and holds it itself. Don't forget there is a small amount of glue on the surface of good washi, too. When you think of the origin of hanga, printing with sumi ink, that color has animal hide glue as a binder. I expect is what the other colors used by the ukiyo-e artists had as binder. best, April www.aprilvollmer.com >>April, > >Both of these things, the binder and methyl cellulose are personal choice >from your own experience then. This is what I wanted to know as I am not >using the binder. You think the binder keeps the pigment on the paper better >than without one.... >Barbara ------------------------------ From: slinders#attbi.com Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 12:01:40 -0600 Subject: [Baren 19814] Call for entries..Harper Small Works Information about the Harper Small Works National Art Exhibition 2003 can be found at this site: Sharen ------------------------------ From: Shireen Holman Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 13:54:28 -0500 Subject: [Baren 19815] Fwd: Printmaking Workshop in Dublin, Ohio I got this on the book arts list. In it's largest dimension, individual artwork must be no greater than 22". All media excluding jewelry, film and video are eligible. Weight limitation of 45 lbs. No work which requires special installation or instructions will be accepted." The form may be printed out, although the lettering is a non-distinctive blue. Click on the words "Print the Detailed Brochure/Entry Form." and you should be able to print out the information that you need. Until about six years ago this was the Harper National PRINT Show, and it was an exquisite show, with amazing entries. Many on the repeat mailing list are printmakers who entered those print shows of the great once-upon-a-time. Thus printmaking continues to be well represented. It would be exciting to have work from Baren filling the walls! Sharen ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V21 #2026 *****************************
