She created a print for the firemans benefit of the twin towers. A truly lovely piece. I have people here who wanted one. One gentleman in particular wanted to add to his collection of twin tower memorabilia. He wanted this print so badly that I wrote to Lezle and she consented to run a second edition of her print. I sent an email to John Center, thought he started this?? I wanted to know how to send in monies for the benefit. Or are we no longer doing this. This one gentleman in particular wanted to make out his check so it would reach the firemans benefit for certain???? Let me know. Oh and thanks to Lezle, we should have 2 sales after I receive her print. No, I did not do a show I just share this protfolio and tell people I can sell them for benefit purposes. This technique works well on a warm sunny day if you have a handy patch of grass: Take your warped board and lay it convex side down on the grass in a sunny spot. After about ten - twenty minutes you should find a lovely flat board. Why? As the sun heats the outer side of the board, the grass is pumping it's moisture into the other side. The combination of heat and moisture applied at opposite ends will effectively release the warp (though if you leave it too long you may completely reverse it the other way - depending on the grain of your board). If you find your board cupping as you carve, you may release some of the tension in the block by carving out a little hollow on the reverse side. They worked great on small work, but tended to give out eventually on larger pieces. Then I discovered See-Thru Mounting Strips. They are a God-send, believe me. They never give out, you can cut them to the size you need, they are roughly the same cost as good linen tape, are much faster to install and you can stableize on all four sides if necessary, and - the best part, if you need to unframe and remove the print you don't need to go through the hijinx necessary to remove tape from the back of the print. Collectors especially love this way of framing - it keeps the print pristine. I'm sure these little gems are available at any art supply store. Also, I have a Logan Framer's Choice mat cutter and it works like a charm. Easy, fast, reliable - no overcuts. I confess to hating the time given over to framing, too, therefore have somewhat the same system as Maria described. I assign a 3 x 5 card to each print giving any pertinent information such as inks used, paper, measurements including the borders of the mat, etc. All this info. is in a handy card file box in the studio. I have a drawer with all framing tools & essentials in it, and when the new addition is finished will have a strictly framing area, which will be heaven. I order matboard and fomecore by the case and relinquish a little room to store it in order to get a better price. I also use metal frames, all standard black, and purchase them by the batch at wholesale. I only add the actual cost of the frame plus $10 - $20 (depending on size) for mat, etc. Most of the buyers recognize that they are getting a bargain on the frame, but if they want it unframed - hey! I can slide that bugger out in a heart beat. I have no problem with that :-) I will leave the UV plexi issue to Barbara, Queen of Plastics, to address! Personally, I prefer to use glass (which also comes with UV protection though it is spendy) but, most competitions require plexi so if you need to ship a piece you then have to frame it again. Well, that's how the old ball bounces, the cookie crumbles and the grapefruit squirts. Thanks Mike for the sign up page. Sounds fun and educational, can hardly wait. I really need a lesson on Hanga printmaking!!!! Although the tape that you sent was wonderful and gave me a better understanding of the process. I sent the tape on to Dan. ------------------------------ From: "Carole Baker" Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002 13:32:28 -0900 Subject: [Baren 19973] Re: Baren Digest V21 #2040 Thanks to all for the kind comments on my prints that I put in my yahoo photos. Gosh, Carol, never thought about not having my name and copyright on there. I'll go back and see if there is some way to do that. I assume that the only people who would go there would be ones that i have told and they would know they're mine...and I don't think a person can get a decent copy off of there. Guess its time I start making that website i've been talking about. Still wondering if it's OK to do a goat for 2003. Was planning to do a mountain goat, but just read that they are really more an antelope than a goat; so maybe I'd better start thinking sheep.
