John, glad you had such a good time. A long trip for you, you really saw a lot of country! Thanks to all who have already sent sheep...I regret mine is still in the planning stage, but soon will be on its way.It is amazing to me how many interpertations there are of such a simple subject. You guys are great! best to all Barbara ------------------------------ From: "marilynn smih" Date: Sun, 09 Feb 2003 08:15:35 -0800 Subject: [Baren 20681] Re: Baren Digest V22 #2123 Yes borders are tight. Don't try to fly with any oil based pigment. No metal containers either, so get out your shampoo bottles and start shoving in supplies or it will all land in the trash can, including that can of miracle gel! This calendar project, I want to do it if I have to sit up all night and whittle away. So if you are making a list and checking it twice I want in. I like the open theme and the idea of work attached that is originals from each participant. I would think , if we do not put together a whole slew of these and keep the cost within reason we would have no trouble selling them. Marvelous Christmas gift idea, original art in a displayable form, wonderful! Make the Baren a few pennies. But, if we sell them like they were each beautiful originals at the same cost we sold our firemans prints, $45. each it will cost over $500. There would be 12 prints, of good size and hopefully good quality?????? Marilynn sitting in the Baja sun and missing her carving tools. Gads I am a painter and now a convert, must be smelling all that ink, eating rice paste for dinner and cutting up ones fingers! Anyone out there want the Baja art market?? Ship me supplies at a cost I can afford and I will buy everything in sight! ------------------------------ From: FurryPressII@aol.com Date: Sun, 9 Feb 2003 11:36:41 EST Subject: [Baren 20682] Re: john center / hanga exchange / MY pillow book (literally) i think my next project will be a pillow book any one want to make it a group project? or an a exchange? john center ------------------------------ From: "nancy osadchuk" Date: Sun, 09 Feb 2003 11:25:37 -0700 Subject: [Baren 20683] Re: Baren Digest V22 #2121 calenders also think the calendar would be a good idea. Possibly to hinge with rice paste on pre printed 'empty' calendars, or with the 3M tape as Louise mentioned. Nancy O. You basically want to destroy Baren. I don't want to have anything to do with it. Should there be different categories or themes discussed and then interested members can sign up for a particular focus? =20 Technique, Seasonal, Animal, Portraits or whatever subject 12 members (or more) agree upon.=20 Thinking along the lines . Seasonal- Christmas in Australia or April in Paris . I see winter in NY now.. Indigenous animals/ birds Oil based work Moku hanga work and an open freeform calendar Sub topics or sub groups could decide (if necessary) where each member would want to focus their effort (what month- or whatever). Using the Subject Line in the baren message we could keep in contact and not add more work at the web site. I am thinking this could get very complicated. mhmmm? I am one of those members who has a busy day to day and can't contribute to maintain the Baren shop, organize an exchange / exhibit or maintain the web page. So I would be more than happy to contribute prints to raise funds or whatever can help the group and those that work so hard behind the scenes. I also ordered a Sosaku 'Sumi' for fine line- not that I am proficient in cutting those fine lines yet! I do understand that it takes time for these Barens to be made and that they will not arrive for a little while. That said, I WANT IT I WANT IT RIGHT NOW ALREADY...ok, just kidding, I'll truly enjoy them when they do arrive, and am very grateful to those of you who run the Mall for us. How would it work? Would each of us have to sew up multiples of a page?
