I have printed on both with excellent results, even two colors. They are unsized and not too toothy and dampen well if you dampen your paper, although they are a bit more fragile (short fibers) than most printmaking or Japanese papers. Fabriano has a "tobacco" paper, you can see it here: http://www.printmakingstudio.com/outwood/carvedmen.html April, I just entered "pillow book" in the Google search engine for the info. I also own some of the references in my home library. Roger, thanks for the info on Chinese stone prints, wow, what a neat technique! I can't wait to try this. Most of my paper samples are too light for what I have in mind... There's Rives BFK tan -- its a warmish brown not too distant from paper bag color and it's nice and heavy and prints beautifully! - -- Mike Mike Lyon mailto:mikelyon#mlyon.com http://www.mlyon.com ------------------------------ From: "Carole Baker" Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 08:56:43 -0900 Subject: [Baren 20744] Re: tableau for hanga Wanda...I think it was you, mentioned that tableau is good for hanga. Do you have to size it? Do you dampen it the same as Japanese papers? Thanks. I didn't size it - but you have to be light-handed with the dampening and on the dry side with your pigments. Which we are supposed to do with hanga anyway. It is a very lightweight, translucent, but tough paper & not much stretch or expansion, which makes it nice for hanga. I wasn't aware that it was used for absorbing dyes in fabric - but perhaps that is the reason for the nice large size & the low price. I experiment a lot with papers - and I save examples in my drawers with the paper/pigment notations on the back of the print - so the next time I want to use a certain paper, I have an idea how it will react. It's also very helpful in identifying those "mystery papers" that show up in the stacks without their little markers! :-) Wanda PS Can't wait until the #15 shows up in my mailbox! I got a "sneak peak" at Suzi Sutherland Martin's print last Tuesday. I *love* it! I think you will too! ------------------------------ From: "Robert Canaga Gallery" Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2003 06:20:16 +0900 (JST) Subject: [Baren 20747] Re: Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 Barbara, I contacted Glenn Brill at Savoir Faire and he is sending me a bunch of samples of the Lascaux paste. I also ordered a case for my self(500ml) and will be able to bath in it:) If anyone wants a sample let me know. I add just a bit to water and it acts like rice paste but no sticking or clumping and it distributes pigment or paint wonderfully. I also, as you know, use it as a base for roll up and mono type. If you rub it on your plexi it acts like Gum Arabic but faster and better. Thanks Robert ------------------------------ From: Barbara Mason Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 18:26:20 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Baren 20749] Re: Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 13:15:38 -0800 Robert, I will be anxious to try this, as the source I had for my glue disappeared. I have been asked to do a hanga class in Eugene, so if you know anyone who is interested in taking it, let me know. Some gals are getting it together, it came about through McClains. My folkes lived in Eugene for years but I haven't been back since about 93, so it will be fun to visit again.
