Also, folks, at the risk of sounding picky, why don't you send your addresses offlist to Barbara as opposed to the list, as these posts have been taking up a lot of Baren email recently. If this is a duplicate, please forgive and ignore. Thanks, ... ------------------------------ From: "Bea Gold" Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2003 20:07:43 -0800 Subject: [Baren 20766] a bit of this - a bit of that I have been wanting to send this long post for a while but couldn't quite get it together - so here goes now - 1. I want to thank everyone for the fabulous horses and now goats, and sheep that have been making their way to my house - they are wonderful - Julio I loved getting all three ,snake, horse and goat from you at the same time and that big Old Goat was also a treat 2. Julio -I'm glad your surgery went well and I want to thank you for the great job you've done with the Baren Suji 3. I have been struggling for a concept for Maria's puzzle block. What a nice challenge to need to come up with something unique soon. Thanks Maria. 4. I used the Yamaguchi paper for # 15 from the Baren Mall. It was lovely to use and only $6.00 for delivery. I wanted to try the large size Hakuraku paper but it is $4.00 a sheet to deliver - Barbara, is there any way to cut the cost of delivery? Thanks for your work on the Mall. 5. Please count me in for both the calendar and the pillow book. Right now I owe #16, a goat, a card, and a puzzle piece so what's two more? 6. I bought the Akua Intaglio inks. I'm not sure about the color. They are different from my usual pallet. I hope I will enjoy them. Any suggestions for use? Is that what you are using Sarah? April said she likes pigment dispersion better and they leaked a bit in transit. 7. I want to thank all Bareners for interesting posts even if too hard to answer. I just completed a community activity so maybe I'll have more time now. Welcome to all the new Baren members. 8. Jean Eger Womack and I went to the Munakata show and it's still on in LA until March 3. Ruth Leaf and I will be going so it would be fun to add anyone interested and able. The show was wonderful and very interesting to see the way Munakata worked. He hand colored the prints and did not create editions. The very large prints were made by tiling smaller sections into a whole. Beautiful. Only one message but a long one. Thanks Dave for creating the Baren and the rest of you for making it a treat to go to. I don't remember having this problem in the past......I used lots of soap and water and then lots more soap and water and still had a hint of black on the brush. Dave, Is this why you have so many brushes? I know you have them for almost every color, but I really thought one could totally clean them out.....I was using the black from the mall that is the paste..it is very thick, almost like lumpy jello...I don't remember having this problem with the liquid sumi ink. Am I the only one having this trouble????? Guess I will just have to buy more brushes....is this a conspiracy?Between the pigment sellers and brush makers???? rats. More stuff to store. I am starting to feel like a printmaking bag lady, carting stuff all over the place. It's impossible to get all the pigment out Barbara ... it works itself down into the roots ... You can usually get away with a 'similar' colour, but once a brush is used for one type of colour, it can't be used for another. > I was using the black from the mall that is the paste..it is very > thick, almost like lumpy jello...I don't remember having this problem > with the liquid sumi ink. Once a brush is used for that thick black stuff, that's pretty much it for that brush; mark it with a bit 'BL' or something, and set it aside for black for now on ... You'll _never_ get it all out ... That's another reason why it might be a better idea to contact Barbara privately. Jack R.
