Baren Digest Thursday, 13 March 2003 Volume 22 : Number 2156 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: John and Jan Telfer Date: Wed, 12 Mar 03 21:16:05 +0800 Subject: [Baren 20954] Re: Hanga #15 Congratulations one and all on a beautiful set of hanga prints. I wanted to write to everyone, but thought this my best option. It would be nice to be able to exhibit them all together and if I have the opportunity I will do that here at our Western Australian Association. With all the "fuss" that went on I was very apprehensive at first to open my package, but all the reports coming through Baren were all positive and so I sneaked a preview on the Baren site and really enjoyed getting them and putting them all out on the dining room table and seeing them together. Well done, first timers. I congratulate you on your effort and attempting the full edition. Even I had only done one edition with that many before. I have my favourites, but I think you all did a "stirling Job" Yes, Frank I recognised the little red bird house! Charles and Jean would too. Thank you Kat for all the work you did and the comprehensive colophon you enclosed for us all. Thank you. Well done. I don't feel so isolated when I receive my exchange surprises. OK gang, the moment you've been waiting for all year is at hand ... Matsumura-san's annual new year card display is ready ... http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ey5s-iszk/woodlike/gallery_top_en.html Best way to view them is with two browser windows. Follow that link, then select the 2003 series. There are too many images for one index page, so they are broken down into seven groups. Once you have reached the first group display, clicking on one of the small images will open a new browser window on your screen. _Keep that window open_ ... you can thus continue to click small images in the first window, and they will all pop up into that other window for easy viewing ... It seems Matsumura-san didn't get quite as many woodblock cards this year as usual. There are 'only' a couple of hundred of them on display here! Dave P.S. Thanks to Sadako-san for doing all the scanning for Matsumura-san this time! ------------------------------ From: Louise Cass Date: Wed, 12 Mar 2003 11:43:31 -0500 Subject: [Baren 20956] Re: More sheep (goats, whatever ...) than you can count ... The assortment of cards is wonderful - such great colour and designs - would they all be the moku-hanga technique? Thanks for sending it all, Dave. Thanks for putting these up Dave and Sadako...some great prints in there....I like that cowboy guy holding up the sheep....so many good designs!!!! I guess since we are in a way customers of Matsumura-san...will it be ok for us to send him some sheep prints too ??? Of course he would love to see them ... but please note that this is not an 'exchange' system. He gets all these cards from his customers and other people interested, but can't possibly sit there and make that many himself for sending back ... I see a few end-grain engravings in there, and there seems to be a touch of hand-painted colour in one of two of them, but for the most part, this is a 'moku hanga' show ...
