Baren Digest Saturday, 10 May 2003 Volume 23 : Number 2218 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: G Wohlken Date: Fri, 09 May 2003 10:26:40 -0400 Subject: [Baren 21452] Hotel Confusion Mike, I'm a little confused about the hotel thing. When I go to the expedia link from the Baren Summit sign up page, the list of hotels doesn't quite match some of your recommendations. When I try to type in some of your recommendations, such as "Homestead Country Club Plaza", I get no listing on the Expedia sign up page (which I clicked on from the summit page on Baren). So what, for Baren to get some of the commission, exactly is the way to go here. Any one else confused? If your recommendation list and the expedia list would be the same, there'd be no problem, but it seems they are not, and the expedia list doesn't show where these hotels are except for a little map that doesn't show how they relate to where you are. I'm new at this. Can you tell? :-) Gayle > >Hi all... Just a reminder -- BarenForum will NOT receive any commission if >you make your reservations by phone or by directly logging into expedia.com >(by typing that URL into your browser). I chose to sleep in because i did not want to deal with a car and getting around in a city I do not know. I hate driving in big cities, so I assume we can get rides from those with cars??? Of course I would happily chip in money for gas and such. With them I made 3 of my arrangements and the prices which I had compared were excellent. (lol) Well, anyway, it may not be possible for BarenForum to get EVERY nickel of potential commission... My list of hotels was (stooopidly) made outside Expedia... You'll just have to do the best you can. BUT!!! Here's some GOOD news for you! That Super 8 Motel on Admiral you asked about? Well, I just drove over there to take a look at it and I was completely wrong! The place is very nice. Just repainted and repaired exterior, well kept grounds, on the 'good' side of the interstate adjacent to downtown KC. Still urban, but neighborhood is OK and motel looks just fine. I think you'll be comfortable there and the price is OK. I still think that for three or more rooming together this one sounds pretty good because of the kitchenn (and 45th and Main is about one block from the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, and four blocks from the Nelson Museum, too): HOMESTEAD COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA (~3 miles S $60 - $104) http://www.homesteadhotels.com/minisite/default.asp?hotelCode=PLZ 4535 MAIN STREET Kansas City, MO 64111 The Homestead Studio in the COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA is a superior tourist class hotel located 25 miles from the Kansas City International Airport. Each attractive studio suite features a fully equipped kitchen, something you won't find in a typical hotel. Plus, there's a comfortable workspace. You will be pleasantly surprised when you check in to one of the hotel's studio suites. -- BUT... I haven't actually been there, so... If you have the Procion powders around, those need a mordant - soda ash or (!) baking soda to bond and set with cloth and make the dye colorfast by chemical bond with the fiber; For paper, which won't be getting washed the way silk fabric does, would you really need the mordant? I would imagine if it were wanted that the amount to mix in would be minute. I do know of at least one person using the procion powders as paper pigments with good results, I doubt she's using any mordant in the process. It'd be fascinating to hear of anyone else's experiments. Check it out at www.barenforum.org/mall I recommend a trip to our friendly mall often, even if it is only to make a wish list. New things pop up unexpectedly when Dave has time to get the pages ready. Because of one thing or another and maybe because your faithful mall manager is busier than most two people, an order will go astray. If you place an order from the mall and do not receive it in a few weeks, three at the outside, let me know. I am always happy to check on it and at least once recently found I had not send one on to Japan. I felt bad and wished the person envolved had let me know in a couple of weeks instead of a couple of months. So if it doesn't arrive, let me know. Paper sample catalogs are shipped from Oregon if that is all you order, if you order more it comes from Japan with the rest of the order. If you don't get it let me know. I am looking forward to meeting everyone who can make it to Kansas City for the summitt in June. I saw an amazing documentary about them - in one scene, a huge snake was coming towards them and all the meercats clumped together (they are only a few pounds each) and moved as a unit, so the snake thought he was looking at one huge beast, and they successfully scared him off, even biting at his tail once he turned around and was leaving. happy printing Sarah ------------------------------ From: Sharri LaPierre Date: Fri, 9 May 2003 17:40:26 -0700 Subject: [Baren 21466] Re: Baren Digest V23 #2217 Dan, Way cool! Before I rush out and get a electric planer, I was considering wetting one side of the wood, so I could see if it could be un-bowed. It is solid basswood, no plywood. Which side do I put the wanter on, the valley (concave) side or the mountain side? Maybe Dave has an answer for this one.
