Having flown recently, they try hard not to give us too much greif. They do understand that some people are artists. I would be more concerned about pigmets than sharp, again just label well. I have an early flight as well United arriving at 12:32. (we always book early flights) But if I have a chanch for a bump and a free flight I will take it. I figured to hang out til the time stated for studio arrival. Perhaps we can all meet in a place at the airport and hang out together and figure out rides.????? We met our son and other friends at the baggage carousel when they flew in. Maybe we could wear a certain color or geez send out photos of one another or something to identify. This will be fun!!! I tried the suggestion about moistening the concave side of the plank, which is about 20" by 15 inches. It did straighten out!!!!! It is sitting weighted by a suitcase full of handmade books. I hope it will not bow again when it dries out. The second one straightened out but is still warped, so I may have to clamp it to a straight board, as suggested. The trouble I have gone to, to get those pieces of basswood ready for carving, is beyond belief. It has been a thrill to successfully make a latex mold of a statue--two of them, in fact! What a great course and a marvelous teacher at San Francisco City College. We all work together and grab each other's burlap and plaster. You have to work fast when the plaster is setting up! I forsee making some casts of wood carvings. (Now I am presumptuously using Graham's word for woodcutting.) ("You are supposed to carve it, not hack at it!") I wish I could go back up there and make my calendars, but it looks like I will be stuck in the city all summer. Also, you'll be glad to know that I made a "B" on my math final. Having sprained my knee, stepping on a kickball in March, it finally went up to my left hip and caused such excruiating pain that I went to the doctor, who prescribed Ibuprofen, water walking, ice and no more dancing, darn it. And no more substitute teaching Physical Education. Since I have had scoliosis since birth, with the short leg, curved spine and all, it is just another one in a long series of hassles on that side of my body. Well, I'm off to the Y.
