I am searching for sources for a variety of folio boxes; trying to stay away from the standard (yawn) black photo presentation boxes, but any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I searched Google already and got tired of surfing in the Vegas heat. TIA!!! It sounds like we can get help for every stage of this process. I am such a technical clutz I seem to have trouble with this multi image transfer system. Am I crazy or just a novice when to me a reduction print would seem to be almost easier to register??? I have fought the laquer thinner to the point where it will not transfer to the point where it transfered a blurry image. Than when "I" carve I am not so precise so such things as kento marks are off between different boards. Also I like to add touches along the way and not be tied to an image. People call them suicide prints when to me they seem more practical. I have done several in lino and they flex well for me. Am I crazy?? And it would seem this too can be done in Hanga. Also I am thinking on a black and white print for my card but if i do this with sumi ( I am new at this stuff) than can I run it and get a lighter black towards a grey and than carve some out and run for darker values? That would seem to make sense to me??? I may not be doing much carving but I am planning 2 designs here for the playing card and the nude calendar. I am wondering since there is some detail on the face of the design I want to use for the nude calendar if I should use a wood that is harder than basswood, which is soft but also seems to be hard to get details or should i revert back to lino because than I know I can get detail and there I have more experience? Maybe I am just thinking aloud here and with the summit so close my thoughts may find answers there. Looking forward to meeting many faces. Hi John.....there will be probably "many" sets of blocks available at the summit for you to print off....I am bringing at least two sets, one of mine and one set I have on loan from Japan.....it may be interesting for people to try printing from others blocks....and I believe Mike will also have some "Yoshida" blocks available for printing. Marilynn, this hanga technique/workshop is going to be such a blast. Not sure what direction you want to go but the possibilities are endless. Mike Lyon uses the reduction techniques in combination with traditional methods to achieve his images. April Vollmer combines the old hanga techniques with digital imaging and printing for her work. Ray Hudson and Bea Gold do chinese watercolor/hanga which uses unsized paper. David Bull....well...David does traditional hanga, we all know that...........,etc, etc, etc.... I guess the wonderful thing is that all these bareners are going to be there together sharing ideas and talking it up and demoing and stuff and is a great opportunity not to be missed. For my part, I been using a bit of a hybrid technique....printing my large color areas (backgrounds and skies) with my press and printing the details and small color blocks with a baren........I would like to be able to get good color penetration on the paper in one or two passes using a baren alone......and also to do a decent bokashi... thanks....Julio Rodriguez (Skokie, Illinois) ------------------------------ From: Mike Lyon Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 19:27:25 -0500 Subject: [Baren 21641] Re: Splitting hairs ! Of course reduction prints are MUCH easier to register -- each reduction block has only one set of kento, already carved, so the kento never move relative to the image from carving to carving and (if you drop the paper accurately, etc.) registration will be pretty perfect... When you carve multiple blocks you might not carve the kento accurately from block to block, so registration may be trickier. - -- Mike mikelyon#mlyon.com http://www.mlyon.com ------------------------------ From: Jsf73#aol.com Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 20:50:33 EDT Subject: [Baren 21643] Re: Splitting hairs ! Mike, I would be happy to cast your face if you like, but I dont know if you'd like me to cast your whole head...... having done faces before I have that down but if I mess up with the mould of your head we would just have to lop it off and try with someone else.... its the ears, they get stuck and I just dont know what to do then..... ;-) ------------------------------ From: "Maria Arango" Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 19:25:33 -0700 Subject: [Baren 21644] Re: folio boxes Great web site, thanks Brad!
