Baren Digest Wednesday, 11 June 2003 Volume 23 : Number 2256 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: G Wohlken Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 12:06:35 -0400 Subject: [Baren 21757] Summit About the rides. Jim and I are picking up Frank Trueba, Mary Green and Marco Marinucci on Saturday (that's about all we can fit in the car , and then we have it set up that Jim will pick up Julio on Wednesday afternoon). Hope that helps clarify some of it, if anyone's taking notes. If others are coming in on Saturday and need help, remember John Furr did offer, so step up now before he changes his mind and takes that more leisurely ride into Kansas City :-) Also, it looks like Carol Lyons will drive Jeanne and Marilynn from the airport that day. We're leaving from Ohio on Thursday afternoon. Archives will not be online from then until we get back home. ~Gayle ------------------------------ From: Sharri LaPierre Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 10:36:24 -0700 Subject: [Baren 21758] Re: Baren Digest V23 #2255 The sheep, lambs, goats, and an occasional horse seem to find their way to my mailbox and each and every one of them are met with open arms. It is so much fun, and eventually they end up in some kind of handmade paper, hand bound book - nothing fancy, but they get a nice home. Thank you everyone - each and every one of them is appreciated! Jeanne, I have Exchange 17 ready to sign and hope to get it in the mail before I leave - Now it's on to calendars. I have one ready to transfer the image to the block and will probably bring it to the summit to work on there. Maybe I will try to print it Hanga - gulp - Sharri ------------------------------ From: Ray Hudson Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 14:37:07 -0400 Subject: [Baren 21759] Summit arrival I arrive at the airport on Saturday at 1:12 (Northwest 1753 from Detroit) and would love a ride if one's available. Let me know if I should hang around for awhile after arrival (in the baggage area?). Looking forward to the week! Will there be supplies for sale - like wood, paper, ink, paste, or maybe even a ball bearing baren by chance? Can you tell I need to stock up? :) Bette Wappner ------------------------------ From: Bette Wappner Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 16:15:45 -0400 Subject: [Baren 21761] supplies for sale at Summit? P.S. Don't get me wrong - I'm going prepared with all the required supplies listed for the Baren Summit - I just don't have the "quality" stuff! Maybe we should all wear a name tag that says BAREN. If we meet in the baggage area, there are so many of us coming in at various times that it would be very boring sitting around the baggage for an hour or more. It is a conundrum! They arrive between 12:50 and 2:09. That would mean 4 people in my van which works out well. No one would have to wait too long at the airport, even though it sounds like we could have a great party in an arrivals lounge. Aimee Youmans is a definate yes, I think. Her flight information is as follows American Airlines flight #1240 from Dallas....it arrives at Kansas City internat'l at 2:09pm. Terminal A I am waiting for Mary Green to give her final confirmation and I hope she will feel welcome enough to say yes as well. Mary's flight is Southwest Airlines #1965 coming in from Cleveland to Kansas City, MO, arriving at 12:50 Terminal B Finally I offerred Ray Hudson a lift as well, his flight is Northwest Airlines #1753 from Detroit and arrives in KC Int. at 1:12 Terminal C Everyone at a different terminal but I am sure we can make it work out fine. I would swing by terminal B then terminal C then to terminal A... Terminal Map link: http://www.kansas-city-mci.com/maps.html I have taken a picture of myself so people will recognize me when you arrive, and I will email it to you if you need and your email handles Jpeg attachments. Airport website link: http://www.kansas-city-mci.com/ Here is some restaurant info from the KC int airport website I hope it may prove useful in helping people arrange where to meet: Restaurants and Shops Kansas City International Airport hosts a variety of restaurants, pubs and gift shops. Restaurant choices include Raving Wraps, Pizza Hut, KC Masterpiece Bar-B-Que and Cheers. Fast food is made available by Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Beverages can be obtained from the Anheuser Busch Tap Room and the Boulevard Brewing Company. Travelers may wish to make purchases from Paradies, the airport gift shop. ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez#walgreens.com Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 16:51:25 -0500 Subject: [Baren 21764] Re: Rides w/ John Furr from airport.+ airport info Nicely done John F., you really got it together !!! Between you, Gayle and Carol it looks like we have most of the rides from the airport covered....I am so sorry to miss the first day of introductions and get-to-know-everyone stuff........I will see you all later in the week. I am bringing a set of my own blocks (#16) and another set that I had on loan from Dave. Also bringing my cheap barens to practice wrapping on and hope to come home with a new Murasaki baren from the mall. All my brushes are coming along cause they need fine tuning...some are wearing off on one side more than on the other. My japanese carving tools are coming too as they are in bad shape and I hope that you guys be able to help me get them sharp again, but I don't plan on doing any carving in KC. I am bringing some special items for show & tell (books & prints), my rubber non-skid mat for printing on, some color pigments and some paper. On a more personal note, I am bringing a pair of jeans (no holes, my Maria won't let me pack the one with hoIes/rips), cd player, video camera, Breathe-Right (little strips for the nose to ensure others get a good night sleep !), bathrobe, jogging pants, run-around shorts, etc......... Let the packing begin, This is going to be so much fun !!!! I'll be thinking about you, and expecting to see some great prints online when you get home! It looks like I will be city-bound all summer. I have to hold down the fort. I'm working on my War and Peace print right now, wondering why I promised to spend three beautiful summer days inside making prints. I'm getting ready to take the production line out into the back yard and let the plum leaves drop on my head while I print (a one-person production line). (No mixed metaphors here! :-) Jean Womack ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V23 #2256 *****************************
