I am sorry to report that I was wrong.

I had tried to reassure Marilynn Smith that there was no
animosity between those who practice traditional hanga and or
those who print in oil based inks. I mentioned that Mike Lyons
merely posted "keeping focus" since he was concerned with hanga
being lost in the noise.

Now I should have sent this to marilynn off list I guess, since
Sharen Linders took it the wrong way and very personally. I am
very sorry for this, but that does not excuse the personal attack
she sent me off list.

Sharen, I never said to anyone to shut up, but that is what your
post to me says implicitly. "Now be a Baren member and print or
talk about printing. "

I never told anyone to leave the list, I dont believe in
censorship either. I never tell people to shut up. I am not
merely quoting mike either, since I personally know of other
sites for block printing. I did extensive research when I found
Baren. Neither did I say oil based printing should not be part of
Baren forum.

However Sharen, you have spoken. I have enjoyed reading the forum
and meeting it's members. I haven't had the opportunity to
participate in an exchange yet, but I would have valued all the
prints equally, oily or hanga. I am sur e that when I get my
prints from exchange 17 I will love them all. Goodbye Sharen, I
dont need such animosity, and I will no longer post to the forum.
If you so wish just say the word and I wont participate in
exchanges either.

Dear Mike and All,

If the numbers are growing as fast as I think they are....I signed up 
on the 2nd and I don't think I will make the "cut", but I think that it 
would be feasible to make the same exchange cut into two complete 
groups that will make it fair for more members to be able to join in 
and the number or prints will be restricted to the usual 31.

With the smaller format, many may want to use more colour combinations 
and more than 31 will be restrictive even for a smaller format.

I posted my Calendar prints to-day, Julio.

Subject: [Baren 22090] a woodblock glossary 


Greetings all,

Why don't we work collectively on a glossary to be added to the 
encyclopedia. I checked the site out and under 'Dictionary' we have a good 
selection of the Japanese terms (some even with audio files) contributed by 
David Bull. This leaves the field wide open for all the other languages of 
the world.

For the English speakers there are all those specialized uses for common 
terms like 'ink knife' that puzzle everyone at first and for all of you who 
revel in more than one language how do you say woodblock in Portuguese, 
German, Spanish or....

I would be happy to work on compiling and editing if you would help me by 
suggesting terms and or definitions, approving and criticizing as we go.

I nominate for our first term....

wood (English), bois (Francais)
the part of a tree between the center and the bark--in woodblock printing, 
used to make the printing block

Let the games begin!!
