Barbara, congrats on the book and I think it's fantastic what you do for the
kids - you're amazing. I'd be happy to look at this book and proof it for you
when you're ready.
as for printmaking shows in ny, someone told me yesterday about an
exhibition at the Met which shows all about Chuck Close's process, sounds fascinating.
best wishes and happy printing.

Hi Everyone,

You may know this already. I noticed that birch plywood is much easier to
carve if you wet the surface and leave it for half an hour. I think that this
may be in part due to the glue softening so I think you have to use it with
care but it makes roughing out easier and is gentler on the knives and gouges.

Cheers

I have been sick am getting better and my son is going to basic training this
Tuesday after that I will get back on track for the exchange. I will be
printing the title page wed. And then cutting the colophon and do intend to get
the exchange out as soon as I can after March 1 the baren boxes have not
arrived at this point even though I was rather ill I still got to the post
office every two or three days to check the p.o. box some of those days that
was all I was able to do. As print came in I did put it up on the baren list.

Steve, or John, I forget which and I am using webmail today,

Some relief printmakers blot each print with newsprint whether it is one color or many. The benefit of this is that it absorbs the extra ink and keeps the print from getting that shiny look. I learned this from a master printer years ago. He would put a paper towel down on each print and roll a rolling pin over it a couple of times.

I think the book Barbara is referring to is a compilation of articles a group of printmakers from Print Arts Northwest put together several years ago when we started the program, "Printmaking In Your Classroom - without a press". Barbara is going through it and organizing it and rephrasing the articles, etc. Quite a project for someone as busy as Barbara is! Currently the notebook is available through the above mentioned program when you take the workshop, which incidentally offers grad. credit through Portland State University. If you are interested in the course, let us know and we will get you signed up. It will be held at the Oregon Coast this year in July/August. Y'all just might want to come out! I'm assuming the info. is on the PAN website - http://www.printartsnw.org. If it isn't there it will be there shortly!

Cheers!
