Hi there Harry,

Here's a page from Baren that discusses different wood qualities.
http://www.barenforum.org/encyclopedia/entries/022_02/022_02.html

I found it by going to the Baren.org home page, clicking on Archives,
and doing a "Baren Search" at the bottom of the page. It will search
barenforum.org archives as well as a google search. Very helpful item
incase you need a direct answer before a member can help out.

I've never used beech but I think I have a 2" block here myself, just
waiting for me to try. On this reference page, its listed as a hard
wood that holds detail, but I don't know how it compares to the desired
cherry. Just to make sure though, try doing a barenforum search by
typing in "beech wood" (make sure you put the space in it) I tried it
and received a selection of about 5 previous postings regarding beech.

Give it a try and let us know! Sounds like a good bargain anyway. :D

Best regards,
Bette.
