Bette,
I received my prints on Saturday, and have been entranced ever since. Thank
you so much for all of the work and the wonderful portfolio cover! I'm
sharing the prints not only with my visual artist friends, but also with the
Indiana Writers' Center. Maybe I can get a collaboaration going! Very
inspiring! Thanks again for all of your work!

Good morning, sorry for the second post in one day, but think the mall message should not count as a real post ... :~)

I am so thrilled that our exchanges are so well received and appreciated. It is an amazing thing, this exhibition and appreciation of the work. When the first exchange was considered, I am sure no one ever thought we would be on #23 or that the prints would have been exhibited all over the world. The enthusiasm of people who have no idea what we do is contagious when it starts. I wish I could have been a mouse in Harry's pocket to have seen this excitement at his presentation.

We who are Baren are privledged to have this group for support, enthusiasm and friendship. I have met more than 50 people "in person" due to my association with Baren. When a new person joins or a lurker suddenly posts it is such fun to get to hear their voices. Seems like we are just visiting over coffee or tea instead of talking to several hundred people when we post. The internet is truly amazing...what a gift this group is.

I am fortunate to live in the same area with at least 4 or 5 other baren members, so next year if we plan a fundraiser, we can all work together. I am thinking calendar assembly.
It will be hard to follow in Julio's footsteps, but maybe we can do it. Be thinking of small prints, 4x6 inches and vertical format.....you have 10 months or so to get it done...more later on this when we formally get it organized. We will do it on a smaller scale than Julio as we want to live through the experience. I think Julio might have almost done himself in with his great project. What a feat. They are a remarkable accomplishment.

And Bette, you are almost as bad with your beautiful portfolio. I was showing it off and just realized there was a small print on the back....you are too good, girl! I cannot believe I did not see the back right away. Everyone who has seen the effort is amazed.

I wish all of you a great day of carving and printing and showing off those prints!
Best to all,
Barbara

The nonprofit StoneMetal Press, looking for a someone to teach the Japanese printmaking here.
Also, The cooperative printmaking studio and gallery in San Antonio, Texas, is holding the 12th annual Hand-Pulled Prints Competition. Formerly an annual exhibit, it is now biannual. The people who run StoneMetal Press have been working as volunteers for the most part of 15 years to promote printmaking and make sure that printmakers had a place to show and sell prints.
Besides information on entering the show, or classes, or an artist residency, the web site also has a gallery of prints. Printmakers are welcome to put work on consignment, propose exhibitions, residencies... they are to serve printmakers.

To all of you who contributed to the deck of cards project I offer my
profound thanks and gratitude. You are all wonderful, gifted people, and I
am absurdly proud to be allowed to play with you. The presentation box, and
contents are absolutely stunning, and I am looking forward to displaying
them in a Sacramento gallery in the not too distant future. I have already
had some inquiries from people who want to know if they are for sale!
Needless to say, the answer is" NO. MINE, MINE, MINE ... "(with apologies to
the seagulls in Nemo)

I just realized that I have neglected to finish sending the last batch of
monkey cards, due to some recent life events interfering with my time and
attention. I apologize to those of you who have not yet received them and
will get them out in the next week or so. I'll not be signing up for the
upcoming rooster exchange because I'm planning a trip to Tashkent,
Uzbekistan , in the spring. I will be there for about a month, and intend to
bring back enough images for woodcuts to last me the remainder of my life. I
look forward to future participation in Baren exchanges following my trip.

Regards to all
Carol in Sacramento
