Don't forget to check McClain's for tools, too,
http://www.imcclains.com I have purchased several from them and am very
happy and the service is excellent. (Alex will go out of her way to
help you.) I use their little leather pad and the green honing
compound all the time and can highly recommend them. I'm sure the
Baren Gods will come raining down on me, but I purchased a set of
Japanese tools at my local art store about 30 years ago for somewhere
around $5. Maybe things have changed, but these are still some of my
favorite tools and I don't seem to need to sharpen then any more often
than the more expensive tools. And, now I have to go do some heavy
fighting off of the Gods, they are raining down.
