"...did i sign up for the rooster project? i want to, but not so sure i
can make the deadlines. "

By all means signup for the rooster exchange....deadline is not
till.....till....till....I guess we really don't have deadlines for
getting the prints in...some people
get them done right away...some after New Years....some later in the
year....some....some...

Anyways....it is a very informal exchange and everyone tries to do their
best and although you may not get a print back from everyone if you signup
late....you'll still get a lot of roosters. We will close signup sometime
after the end of the year....but you have a long deadline to get the
prints in....

Dave....the last print in the beauty series is fantastic, an excellent
example of how to build color overlays using moku hanga, so much
character in that face, I agree that the pose looks quite
photographic....well done.......please count me in for a subscription to
the new series for this year....I have just the place to display the
prints/box display.

thanks...Julio Rodriguez

Thanks Maria, such a wealth of knowledge you are. When i get back to the
states i will have to get me some of that wood filler. So far my Myrtle wood
is carving so well I have not had chips to fill.
Harry how inovative, love the idea! Being a watercolor painter and lover of
monotypes I adore this idea. Maybe for my rooster card I might try this.
But with me you never know a reduction plate becomes a black and white plate
and designs change in mid course. But my neighbors are enchanted with my
new carving. They are telling me they are impressed. Our condo is too
small to work in and I love the sunshine and fresh air. so I carve on our
balcony a lot and when the husband is using that i sit outside the front
door or down by the pool. People stop and ask what I am doing, often tho
they just leave me to my carving.
No tips here except keep those tools sharp and that hand steady. No blood
please.

WOW I love this list. Harry you opened a door with your ideas on printing
and Barbara you sugested white line printing. Had heard of it but did not
investigate it before, this will definitely be for me. But I have a
question????? Is this done with dry paper? It would seem so as the paper
is tacked down and each portion of the image is than colored seperately
while the paper is still attached. Also it seems that this method can be
used with our western papers, if it is not required that we dampen them?????

David, your "Beauties" are wonderful. As an older woman i agree that beauty
is not about being young and that many lovely and beautiful older women
exist in this world. You have shown beauty in "Winter". It has a haunting
beauty that defies age and I love it. Your craftsmanship goes beyond just
reproducing here, it goes to a true feeling. I can look at this and see
more than just an image, i see that joy for life, a seeing of the future
with happiness and a beauty that comes from both of those feelings. How
fortunate that you found it and how wonderful that you went ahead and
reproduced this for others to see.

This has little to do with wood cut, but a lot to do about aging as a woman.
About 15 years ago i had a neighbor, she was in her 60's, not a beautiful
woman. she had a sister, and sadly her sister had a drinking problem. One
day she asked me to help her get her sister into bed. we gently undressed
her and slipped her into bed, to sleep it off. Despiter her drinking
problem and despite her age, which was older than her sister, somewhere in
her mid sixties, she was one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
So David this print of an older woman reminds me that beauty comes at all
ages and in many forms.
Thanks for sharing.

Julio

Is it too late to sign up for the Rooster exchange????
I have been in all of them and would not like to miss this one.

And my New Years Resolution is to stop being a PROFESSIONAL LURKER anymore.

Marilyn,
I think you need damp paper or the paper will stretch and wrinkle when the damp pigment hits the dry paper...so to keep it damp, I would lay a piece of plastic over it when you flip it back off the block. Matt Brown, www.oolopress.com ,uses rives heavyweight paper, it is lighter than BFK and his prints are lovely...so it is control after doing a lot of it. I have not had success with this paper, though, maybe I had it too wet or not wet enough.

Bea and Ray, how do you handle this? Do you use damp paper????
Best to all,
Barbara

Dave,
Winter looks absolutlely amazing! I can hardly wait until I get home and can see her in person. It is such a perfect choice and she looks like the perfect candidate.

I have enjoyed the whole series and look forward to next year, too. Like Barbara says, the mailbox is so much fun!

If there is anyone who has not received my monkey with the monkey wrench, let me know by my personal email and I will tend to it when I get back home. (after Dec. 28). The roosters are still scratching around in my head - - -
