Merry Christmas everyone ..... we have Christmas a day earlier than
most of you, so will be wallowing while you are still feasting!!

47 of My Little Red Roosters flew their coop yesterday with Christmas
Card stamps!! They were ready to be hatched and for $1.00 per
envelope for Christmas, $1.10 after Christmas mail or $1.45 for
beautiful Christmas Island Chinese Year of the Rooster stamps due for
release on January 4th, 45 of mine all left the coop for America,
Switzerland and Italy and only two will be winging their way across
Australia! It gets a bit expensive living on the other side of the
migration zone!!

Enjoy your little Red Rooster...... no surprises this year for the
security men, sorry!! When the world "calms" down a little I might do
more surprise packages!

Dear Friends,
As always, the end of one year and the start of another is a time of reflection and contemplation. Knowing all of you through the Baren has enriched my life and given me joy.

The winter of 2003 and early spring of 2004 was a bad health winter for me. I am happy to report that I feel great this year. It almost seems like it was something I imagined now that I feel so well. It seems true that our minds remember the good and file away the bad in the natural order of things, helping us to be upbeat and happy. I have slowed my life down a couple of paces and am so much better for it. I am always the first one to raise my hand when someone needs a volunteer, my good friend Wanda has me practicing saying "no" in front of the mirror and think it has paid off.

Printmaking and art has been such a part of my life for so long that every other part of my life is woven around it. I made prints with my two granddaughters, 20 months and 24 months a couple of weeks ago. We just framed them together yesterday and today, (they sat in the high chair coloring and giving advise as I did the framing) and they sort of have the concept of "giving" presents...they are more of a mind to "receive" but hope that will change as they get older. It was such a natural thing to do, making prints with them. I hope it is the first of many happy times working with them in the studio. They really seemed to like it and except for the youngest one trying to eat the ink, I think it went rather well.

My holiday wish for all of you is more time in your respective studios, even if the studio is only a corner of the kitchen table. Art is like singing, we should all be doing more of it. It is good for the soul. I wish you all a great new year and taking Bette's advise, I do plan to finish all I have started in 2004. Maybe I will get it done in the small empty time between our Christmas and January 1, it seems to be a down time for all here in our family and company. Business is really slow, we have all eaten too much and we sort of just stay home and regroup.
My very best to all,
Barbara

Saw that we didn't take much notice for Baren's birthday last month ...
we're seven now! But there is one tradition that we shouldn't forget
... our Xmas message!

Me? I'm spending the last week of the year in the same fashion that I
always do .. making my new year print ... This year it's going to be
a close call ... might not get it done in time!

HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY, BAREN!!! Thank you for sharing the audio and
visual versions of "The Night Before A Printmaker's Christmas". I do
soooo enjoy hearing you read this, Dave. It makes me chuckle and smile
with glee and I shall peak in my studio Christmas eve, to see the
magic :) Bless You Dave! Bette.

Barbara,
I enjoyed reading your Reflection letter. I'm glad that you're health
is better and that you're practicing simplicity in life and enjoying
your studio, grandchildren, and friends. I will take your advice and be
in my studio more. At times, I truly have consumed the corner of our
kitchen table with printmaking, just so I can be with my family. They
LOVE to have me in sight when I carve and print and I think it teaches
them that you can do what you love and love your family at the same
time. Granted that you don't carve and print 24/7 :) Finding that
fine line is key :)

Barbara, knowing you online, then meeting you in person as well, has
been a pleasure and a joy. I feel your love of printmaking, and the
world is better for having you teach it and exalt it. Thank you for all
you do for Baren as well.

Warm wishes,
