Here's a page about our last (and first) Baren Summit in Kansas City, nine
days June 14-22, 2003: http://www.barenforum.org/summit/ A shorter (three
or four day) gathering might be excellent! Personally, if we do it near
Portland, I'd love it to be some time during the 'school year' so I might
also get to visit my son, who's attending Lewis & Clark!

Sharri and everyone else,

It is common knowledge that the west coast is Blue and the upper east
coast is also Blue. I feel it is a bit naive to think saying the
comment about Democrats as being Bleedinghearts would not offend
someone. You have referred to some of us as "screaming, bleeding heart
liberal environmentalist" as well as not having a sense of humor, and
even someone "who may or may not be WOODBLOCK PRINTMAKERS" and then of
course "being petty" about all this.

You describe this gathering as a summit. A summit is a gathering of
people all with different backgrounds to meet on a common interest. Why
divide us according to red and blue? Why not just meet for the sake of
our common interest? There is enough division in the world without
bringing it to bear on our common interest.

Anyway...Sharri PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't rescind on your offer it is
a great idea and the fact that you want to host it and open your home
is wonderful. Although I don't post much I do enjoy the comraderie on
this forum and I would hate to lose that or for anyone else to. Also
having seen the pictures of the baren summit in KC, it would be a loss
if your were to back down.

Cheers,

Kev

I think Sharri was using tongue firmly planted in cheek. Let's not be so
thin-skinned!

Mike,
I can't believe we were in Kansas City that many days, but guess we were. All I remember is what a great time we had! I can't wait to do it again...but think we will need till 2006 to get it all planned. There is so much stuff to do in the Pacific Northwest that you could spend 10 days here and never carve a thing. We will have to set up a couple of day trips to Multnomah falls and the gorge and the ocean...well, I could go on for a long time. This does not even cover the art stuff....there is a very good collection of woodblock prints at the Gilkey Center at the Portland Art Museum...think we can get a private tour pretty easily. Well, we will have a lot of time to plan this so if anyone has ideas lets hear them.
Best to all,
Barbara

It was an obvious joke, let it go for cryin' outloud.
I'm sure we will all be very pleased to meet you.

Sharri has made a very generous offer as did Mike Lyon a couple of years
ago. If there is a summit in Vancouver, Washington, I could lend a hand to
Shari (before, during and afterwards), maybe do a bit of shuttling of bodies
and probably have a couple of spare bedrooms in our house in Portland open
to some folks.

Dear Sharri,

I know I don't have much to contribute these days, having given the all of
my expertise in my first year of membership, but I just want you to know
that you are one of my favorite baren personalities.

Don't despair.

Sharri - I'm there! Count me in. Thank you, thank you :)
I can't believe there are so many Bareners over there - WOW, about 15
or so?
Super! I don't care where I sleep, I'm flexible.
You're studio and the surrounding area sound great. I've never been to
those parts before!
It'll be a treat for sure.

Hi Sharri

Count me in for the Summit. Would not miss it for the world.
Have been out of the loop lately and raring to go now.

I have a friend who lives in Portland, if that is where it is going to be. So I am sure I can stay with her for most of the time. And my cousin lives on Whidbey Island in Washington and I had planned to see her soon anyway so it would be perfect, perfect, perfect.

Yay, 2006 Summit.

Jeanne (the Sandbox 101 Hanga person)

PS. I live in a Fuschia state.
