Hi folks, I don't know if any of you British folks are near Westbourne, but
thought I'd let you know about this just in case. I have a bunch of woodblock
prints, etchings and a sumi painting up in a dog-themed exhibition called "Art
and Crufts". Here's the website of the gallery for more info:

Charles and all,
I just had one of my little aha's. Ah ha! They are talking about
Lasertran. This is the paper you are talking about to transfer xerox
images to woodblock or copper. The answer is yes, it can be used as a
resist on copper. I bought a packet a year or two ago and have yet to
try it, but it says on the package that it can be used for that
purpose. One of these days I'll get around to getting a laser print
done on a sheet of it and give it a go. Even though it is called
Lasertran, and specifically says laser print, I thought it included ink
jet - which, of course, it does not. It wasn't until I started to use a
sheet of it that I realized my assumption was incorrect.......
Instead of an aha that was an oh, well. As I recall, it was rather an
expensive little product - no wonder Art Media's stock keeps going up
:-)

Cheers,
Sharri

Finally got time to take a peet at your work, Tom. It is wonderful! I
love the way you have arranged the layers & your compositions are
outstanding.

Great tip on mashing the powders *in* the plastic bag - why didn't I
think of that?

Welcome to our obsession! :-)

Welcome Tom -
I too enjoyed your website, moku-hanga prints, and pigment powder
grinding tip. Your prints gave me additional inspiration to work more
with multi-colored prints. I'm anxious to try my new sumi paste from
the Baren Mall.

Charles
I use a citrus solvent to transfer images to wood as well. If your laser image does not transfer as you wish, try a trip to your local Staples (or whatever) and use their copy machines on the image. Bring along a bit of your citrus solvent and try different machines checking which ink is solvent. I also suggest that you check your image size on the copy. Some copy machines can resize your image ever so slightly.
Good luck

I think that it is a great idea Colleen and you have my permission to use my
card. I would also be interested in buying several decks!

Hi all,
I just shipped out over 300 baren brochures. Hooray! They are not promoting us very well sitting in a box on my studio shelf! So if you want some, don't be shy, let me know! I would like to see them out in every printmaking arena everywhere!
Best to all,
Barbara

Hi Barbara

Send me a few brochures, I will take them over to the printmaking dept. at Ringling School of Art and Design. They have a good Printmaking program there.
Perhaps the Printmaking teachers might be interested too.

Send Message: To this poster

Late last year I made a suggestion that we of [Baren] should consider
producing a DVD (or DVDs) of our work, and put out a survey form to see
if there was any interest:
http://barenforum.org/dvd/survey.html

There _was_ quite a bit of interest - in providing video material to be
included, in suggesting ideas/formats for the project, and from people
who have skills in this area, and who volunteered to help out.

Unfortunately - sorry! - I then got kind of overwhelmed with my own
affairs and dropped the ball completely.

But one of the other Council members - Julio - didn't give up, and is
working on bringing this back to life; I've passed on to him the
information that was submitted, and he has been in contact with two of
the members - Kevin Hull, and Robin Morris - who have the skills to put
this thing together. Seems like there is now no reason why we can't
actually do this!

We haven't lost the previous submissions, and will be following up on
them, but if you have more to add, or if you didn't send in any
info/suggestions/ideas with that form last year, then please feel free
to do so now.

Sorry for letting everybody down on this one, and thanks to Julio and
the volunteers for picking up the pieces. Let's make a great DVD
together!
