Dave,
Really good stuff. This shoud lead to a book (not too fancy)and you should self publish. Way way better than a video or DVD, cause it can be refered to quickly. Plus it looks cool. Put me down for a copy, name your price.

Hanga Manga Mania! Clearest instructions for baren-tying and
hakobi-making I've ever seen. Eager to see what come next.

The presentation of woodblock techniques in "Hanga Manga" is an excellent idea.
It will breath new life into the academic encyclopaedia and attract a whole new generation to woodblock printing, particularly the young, beginner and surfer.

The idea works very well because it is only "one off" of how the Japanese
would have shown it. In the old days there were a number of prints showing the
process but almost always it was being done by "pretty women" dressed to the
9's.

I always thought that a print making book did with mostly photo's would be
the best way to teach this.

Dave I think you are on to something.

We've touched on this before ... whether or not to 'charge' for
information ... and I think my feelings on this are pretty clear; if a
whole bunch of experienced people hadn't freely shared their knowledge
and expertise with me over the past couple of decades, I'd still be
teaching English!

Charge for 'info'? Never!

This is doable ... unlike charging for 'raw' information, I think
having books/discs for sale would be an interesting thing to do.
Problem of course, is finding the time to do it _properly_ ...

One more item just went up a few minutes ago. A bunch of you have asked
me for translations of 'all' the TV programs in the new Woodblock
Shimbun section of the website. That's just not possible, but this
evening I put up a sort of 'storyboard' for one of the programs. It's
the 'It's Lunchtime!' link on this page:
http://woodblock.com/manga

Well, yes and no. Those baren-tying instructions are now up there in
two forms - the 'manga' version, and the verbose HTML version. The
manga one is certainly 'fun', but it really doesn't hold anywhere near
the quantity/quality of information that the longer illustrated text
version has. I think it's more useful as a _reference_, for people who
basically already know what to do ... just something to flip through
now and then to keep one's memory up to date on something ...

Anyway, these are fun to make, so I'll see what other photos I can find
on my hard drive to process this way! What I would really like to do
right now is a good long sequence showing one of the Treasure Chest
prints being made - start to finish. Problem is, I have nobody here
that I can call on a dozen times during the day to take photos at each
step ...

Dave, you're getting good with the "funny-ness" in your comics. I
like your little thoughts and their little thoughts and exclamations
like when Jack says "ME?!!!!!", with all those jagged lines around
his word and when you are thinking to yourself that Jack missed the
registration by a mile, and he thinks he's doing pretty well. Ha. I
love it. And the chopsticks thing is hilarious. I can't wait to get
this software, but will probably do it when we get back from our
mission to deliver the two backpackers to their destination at the
border. Make more and more of these (that is, when you have some
time).

Dave. why not use yr webcam and save the pix yrself? Have them saved to
the drive then u can grab every 10th or 20th one and because every step
is in front of the cam u will get a lot of what you need, then toss the
rest- i don't know if yr webcam does that though.
I also don't get what the difference is between selling a streaming
video or selling a book. the ability to make one click and have a whole
chapter read out while one works is nice- maybe you should do an audio
cd with a book... the vid can be saved and viewed again and again- just
like a book...but i am glad u share and don't charge of course! Was
trying to help.

Hi. Here is the recipe to make
water based xylo.
I know you know but see if mine

It was given to me by Vanessa Roncalio
a great young engraver friend of mine,
her and her husband

WATER BASE XYLO

5( pincelar mingau

6) pincelar a cor desejada

7) se o papel for mais grosso, borrifá-lo antes

8) imprmir mais rápido com colher de pau ou baren

9)para imprimir novamente limpar a matriz com
pano úmido

p/imprmir
first colocar o papel s/a matriz
then colocar um papel vegetal u cristal em cima
passar a colher ou o baren

do 5 ao 9 a operação must be repeated

Hi Dave

I have been MIA for awhile due to real life interfering with my "art life", but had to go take a peek at Hanga Manga and it really captured my attention.
Clever, clever, clever. So much information done in a creative manner.
Loved it!!!!
If you ever put out a DVD on this, put me down as one of your first customers.
