Ellen Shipley, CA
Thank you for sharing your wood cuts. I too am a "non traditional student"
and am enjoying printmaking, especially relief.

I am probably the most "non-traditional" student on the Baren. All my learning is from the Woodblock.com web pages and the tutorials I've picked up here plus the books I got after hearing/seeing them mentioned in the Baren. I guess my work shows it but I'm having a ball.

Non-traditional students unite. 8-] Thanx for the site. I'll check it out. I've poured over printmaking books I've found in art stores too. This is just so much fun.

One more NTS signing in.

I have never seen an actual Japanese woodcut or held a print for that matter but spend a lot of time on the Barenforum, David Bull's webcam, checking out hanga books and experimenting. Some experiments involve making a baren with corn hulks and surgical tape, one with sandpaper and cloth, forging a knife, making and sizing my own paper, trying various of recipes for rice paste, etc. I am finally broke down and am expecting my first order from the Barenmall.

I am taking a printmaking lab this summer at our community college where everybody else does monotypes and I carve and print. I recently completed a three values of black reduction print and am carving a key block for a four color print. I made a required report to the class on Harunobu.

I am working on a website to show some of my attempts but need to buy a better digital camera first.

Exchange #27: we'll see.

Welcome Ellen,

> I am also a weaver but my weaving

We seem to have a lot in common.....age, going back to college - I am
doing a Master of Arts/ Art Therapy (already an OT), weaving which I
taught back in high school as well as I had my own floor 4 shaft loom,
etc, ATCs and the printmaking which is now my first love with
watercolour painting coming a close second...with a bit of calligraphy
thrown in!

I enjoyed looking at your site and your ATCs... I don't have a web
site, have bits all over the internet, especially on Baren exchanges
and other printing sites. My ATCs I have only exchanged with local
friends.

Next year I might get a site up and going.....

Welcome,

Jan (Telfer)

Just a quick report to say I am home safe and sound and had a fabulous time in the windy city...I will report later after I sleep a whole night in my own bed. Seeing Julio and his Maria, John, Sharen and Don, Linda, Dean and Susan and Carol Meyers was just so much fun! What a miracle this baren group it....not only the nicest people in the world but talented as well!
Julio took pictures as did Sharen's husband Don....so I am ready to pay for them if they are bad....hahahaha
Best to all,
Barbara
