Chris, great little press, good invention. I too have the korkoro baren and
love it. I also recommend a slip sheet with it.

Hi,
Speaking of the last message about stamps, my 7 woodblovck prints were
adapted from pictures on 1958 and 1959 Israeli postage stamps. They were done
for a travelling exhibit and were also shown at the Manhattan Borough
Presidents Office for Women's History Month. The prints are large for me, but I
was up to a challenge when I was asked to do them. Actually the curator
didn't have anyone doing woodblocks for the exhibit and it was an opportunity I
couldn't refuse.

Robert,
I have three that I use and have had only one problem: The screws coming
loose and tearing paper. I went to the local car part store and got some red
lock-tight, put it on the screws, put them in, and it has been a year since
I have had a tear. I also use wd-40 sprayed on a paper towel as a rest for
the barren when not in use, keeps it from getting sticky.

Hi Chris,

Looks great! I've been looking around for plans for a homemade press...

Now, I know it's a stupid question, but where does the block and the
paper go? Does the jack press upwards, or downwards? LOL

How do you keep the wood from warping so that you'll get a uniform
print every time?

Thanks for the nice comments, the paper and block go in between the
thick boards in this picture,
http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/945/2404/1600/2.1.jpg and the press
jacks upward putting pressure on.

I didn't seem to have any problem creating enough pressure with the
jack, and so the printing process went good for a first time around...
plus the fact that I haven't done a woodcut print in years, so it took
me awhile how to remember how to apply ink, etc., ha.

I think if the wood plates (the thick ones that do the pressing) ever
warp it would be a matter of getting them planed, and getting another
2"x10" and replacing them.

Have a good one,
Chris
