Good morning, Baren friends,

Glad I could help you at the festival! Seriously, thank you for writing
that, Maria. It bolsters my belief that the more people know about woodcuts
the more they appreciate them. Of course, I was also simply pleased to hear
that there are folks who read my blog. I have no way of knowing who or how
many or why people read it, so that little bit of info was nice to receive.

Harry French, your "Feldweg" print is outstanding! I love the colors, the
softness, and even the overall shape of it. Beautiful!

Best to all, Annie

Greetings! It's time to think about blocking off dates on the calendar.
Is the summit still on for this summer/fall? Could you remind me of the
dates? I recall signing up some months ago, but, of course, I've lost
all the information! thanks!

Send Message: To this poster

There are currently 50 printmakers signed up for
Exchange #29 -- so we have begun Exchange #29a
Salon de Refusé (a place for those refused) for
"The Nude" exchange and we might easily
accommodate another 15 to 20 printers to fill
both exchanges (30 printers maximum in each
exchange, plus allowance for some attrition
between now and the July 1 drop-out
deadline). Same rules, deadlines, and other details for both exchanges.

For clarity, let's call the first 30 printers the
'regular' exchange and the next 30 the
'salon'. Participants in the 'regular' exchange
may ALSO sign up for the 'salon' -- their 'salon'
submission need not be the same as their
'regular' submission although it is acceptable to
submit prints from the same edition to both
exchanges. 'Regular' participants will be queued
at the bottom of the 'salon' list behind those
who are not in the 'regular' exchange in order to
accommodate as many individuals as possible. If
and when 'regular' participants drop out, 'salon'
participants will be promoted into the 'regular' exchange in list order.

If you're not already signed up and would like to
participate in this popular exchange, now is your
chance! If you've already signed up and would
like to participate in BOTH exchanges, please
sign-up AGAIN at http://barenforum.org/exchange/exchange_sign-up.html

I was taking a sumi painting workshop today, and one of the participants
said she had taken a class in Japanese woodblock printing, and when I asked
her who she had studied with, she said you! (of course, I can't recall her
name right now but I'll find out at the next class). She really enjoyed your
class."

Last May when I took Matt's workshop there was a woman from NY named
Costanza who mentioned that she studies sumi painting, so I'll bet that was
her. She did a lovely print of a NY skyline in snow at the workshop.

For anyone in or near New England, Matt is teaching at Snow Farm again this
spring, April 21-23. Here's the web site for Snow Farm:

http://www.snowfarm.org/

Matt's workshop is listed under "Adult Intensive Weekends." He's a great
teacher!

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

The Baren Summit for 2006 is alive and well and being planned as we
speak. The Summit will be held in Vancouver, WA (fly into Portland, OR
airport code PDX) and take the first left to cross the river and arrive
in Vancouver. We are approx. 20 minutes from the airport.
Unfortunately, none of the hotels offer airport transport so
out-of-towners will need to provide their own transportation (get a
group and rent-a-dent or car), use Blue Star (a private van service),
or let us know and we will arrange to pick you up at the airport and
take you to wherever you need to go. We're easy. Just don't arrive
too early if you want me to be on time - LOL

THE DATES ARE AUGUST 14 - 18, 2006. ALL DAY EVERY DAY - FUN FUN FUN -

We are having an organizational meeting at my studio on Sunday, Apr. 9
at 2pm. If you are in the area and would like to help please come.
Let me know and I'll get directions to you. My phone is 360/574-3730.

Make your plans now! Mike will be getting all the details up on the
Barenforum web site as soon as I get the info to him sooo, I will do
that now.

Cheers!

Connie, one thing about the salon d refuse is that you will have drop outs
too. Get as many as you can up to the 31 mark as you will probably lose a
few. And you do want as full an exchange as you can manage.

Aeleen,

The "holding pen" is a list of participants who are signing up for the
current exchange but also participated in the immediately previous exchange.
The object is to allow those who did not participate in the immediately
previous exchange to be first in line for the current exchange.

Since some of us are completely addicted to exchanges and signed up for
everything as soon as it is allowed, Mike allowed us to submit the sign up
at any time but "holds" our names for a week. Once the week of gut-wrenching
penitence is over, the holding pen gets bumped up to the exchange list. It
is really a great system because it allows everyone to participate. Drat.

Murilo,

The cost will be the same as before; everyone needs to send their blocks
back to me at their expense and contribute toward the mailing costs of the
prints. If anyone can't afford to contribute, please sign up anyway as many
members are generous and this year I am seeking a grant to help fund the
project. I again especially encourage international members to participate
in the Great Baren World Cairn!

All the details are here (there is an additional participant not updated
yet):
http://1000woodcuts.com/projects/cairn/index.html

Join in! I plan to announce one more time and close sign ups in about a
week.
