HI
I can't resist a comment! Such interesting posts about selling your work. It seems that people are drawn to the studio situation as it is a very intimate way for them to get to know your work a bit. My father had a studio for my whole childhood which was open to the public and our sole income. He was a potter. It was hard to find, which also seems to be something that people enjoy when it comes to original artwork. This is also the experience of a friend who recently converted a shed out the back into a small gallery. She has only one small sign up on her letterbox and a small sign in the local shop. Living way off the beaten track she has been amazed that she has sold a painting every week - enough to live on! I guess the answer sometmes is subtlety. But of course that isn't the answer for all sales. Winter, for example, slows down the number of people willing to go for liesurely drives in the country! Perhaps that is when the city exhibition comes in!

David your comment on the cutting up of the Hokusai books to display the prints seperately is just horrifying!

Wanda,
I agree, I think the book was probably cut before they got the pieces, but lets ask them. I have gotten a couple of tonsu chests from them and they seem extremely reputable. I just love all those little drawers...I have way too much stuff.
