Memorial Day....90's here...and humid....
and, as I've discovered....
opening season for MOLD!
I've gone through the archives, the best I can...
and am just double checking to see if I've got this right...
or there is anything new or more I can do to avoid the nasty visuals that magically appeared overnight.....
(and all was going so well for me...
I should have figured there was something new to run into)

What seems to be making the most sense is a combination of Thymol crystals in 1 liter of distilled water....
and a space in the freezer.

We've got great ground water here...
but,
I should switch to distilled water...
mix in the Thymol
and use this special water for all...paste, pigment, paper softening.....
in conjunction with overnights in the freezer....

does this sound right?

It's been cold/cool/dry winter/spring during the time I've been getting moku hanga up and running...
mold/fungus never, ever entered my mind....
until this morning...
geez...
my heart sunk.

all advice/suggestions very welcome at this time!
thanks...
Linda

Bea (and everyone else)

Send your summit money to me. I am planning a trip to the new casino
soon and need all the help I can get. :-)

Unfortunately, I don't think we ever got the PayPal thing figured out.
I had an account once, but I'm not sure whether that is still active or
not and have long since forgotten the password. (Did I mention that I
need help in a lot of categories??)

Send check, money order, 1st trust deeds, rights to first born to:

me

Vancouver, WA 98686

Cheers!
Sharri

PS Barbara is right! There will be something for everyone - maybe you
will learn the slickest registration system known to man, how to tie a
baren with one hand tied behind your back - you just won't know until
you come. Even if you already know everything there is to know, you
will still have a good time with all the good company, and just think
of the teaching opportunities!!

Hi all!

I really appreciate whoever it was that told me about using a marble
rolling pin for a press.

*However*.....I never realized how hard it would be to actually FIND
one of them! It seem that all of a sudden, NONE of the stores carry
them anymore. Odd. I guess I'll have to hunt down one at a
restaurant supply or something.

And another thing.....Is anyone here working with artists' books with
their prints? I've gotten involved (addicted) to that art form
lately, which makes perfect sense to me given my background in
publishing (it's that thing where you go ahhhh this is what I'm
supposed to be doing!). There is some amazing stuff out there, and a
lot of it involves hand printed pages....lino prints, woodcuts, etc.

Try second hand stores ... that's where I got mine ... "antique" and
"junque" shops ... I see them in such places all the time, priced from a
few dollars up to $10. Salvation Army, Value Village, Women In Need, St.
Vincent de Paul, Hospital Auxiliary, Community Thrift Store, etc.

Also, I frequently see them in "hardware" stores and "building supply"
stores of the neighborhood variety ... not the "big box" outlets.

Cheers ..... Charles

Hi Charles,

I did look at some of the Goodwill Stores, but haven't done the
others. Good idea...

I'm afraid most of the neughborhood hardware stores around here have
turned into Big Boxes, but I'll keep my eyes open....

Thanks!

Hi Bobbi,
I found a marble rolling pin recently at Linens and Things for $19.95, if
you have that store in your area you might try there.

Hi Bobbi and all,

You might try any gourmet supply shop for the marble rolling pin.

I just love artists' books. I have a class for kids--young and old--and we
make butterfly books, maze books, stab binding books, ledgers, shaped books
and so on, each with a little hand made stamp or full images on ez cut or
safety cut. Lots of fun and it seems that one leads to the next--just like
printing. It seems that as soon as I am printing one, my mind is already on how
to start the next one.

Happy carving!

Hi Connie,

We were just there yesterday (also went to Bed, Bath and Beyond) and
both stores told us that they *used* to carry the marble pins, but
don't anymore! Strange, since they still carry other marble stuff.
I was flabbergasted, since I was sure they'd have one.

We also looked at Foley's (big department store) at the mall tonight,
and they didn't have any either.

I'm not giving up, though!
