Send Message: To this poster

Hi all,

I bought some cool rice paper at Michael's the other day, sold for
Japanese brush painting.

Is this stuff acid free? Is it good for block prints?

I've tried it on both sides, and one side is "fuzzier"...which is the
normal side for printing?

Thanks....

Il Bisonte is an Italian school for printmaking located in Florence. When I
was in grad school in Florence several (wince) decades ago they offered a
full curriculum in printmaking "studies". Santa Reparata was affiliated
with a southern Florida university in the 80's, I think, but they are the
ones who offer the printmaking workshops now. Colleen, please correct me if
I'm wrong here.

Santa Repararta is in Florence, Italy.
Founded by Dennis Olsen, printmaking instructor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and recently made a nonprofit, it is a beautiful experience if you go.
Some courses can be taken for Graduate credit. I got the last 3 credits I needed to teach as an Adjunct from there, for the price of taking a calss in the States.

Bobbie,
Most oriental paper is not acid free, but is has lasted a long time anyway.
Print on the smooth side, this is the side with the sizing and will hold the pigment in place and keep it from bleeding. Let us know how the prints turn out, this paper is usually not for printmaking but it is pretty stable. Did you dampen it? I think it would work well dry, it might be too soft to dampen very well.
best to you,
Barbara
