Hi, artists

Someone asked me to translate to English
this:

"quem năo tem competęncia năo se estabelece"

I did

"who has not competence (or ability) does not
establish himself"

but the person returned asking for an idiomatic translation.

could anyone help me with an idiomatic expression for this?

thank you.

Murilo

sorry if it's not about woodcut

A second to everything April related regarding SGC. It is the place to
go to find out the latest currents in the printmaking world. There is
also a huge (by printmaking standards) product fair where you can see
every kind of paper available on the planet, newly developed inks, the
latest innovations in non-toxic materials, etc. When ImageOn and Akua
first came on the scene I learned of them at SGC. It is also an
excellent opportunity to meet Carol Pulin, Director of the American
Print Alliance, pay your annual dues, pick up copies of the journal,
and, if so inclined, you can help her in the Alliance booth! SGC used
to have a print exchange, and probably still does. It is fun - I'm
sure the details are all on their web site.

Happy printing,
Sharri

Maine: "Renowned artist Paulette Gnidziejko is teaching a Color Woodblock Printing Workshop, Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 26 – 29, 10 am – 2 pm. Students will learn a brief history of woodcuts, about different kinds of wood, methods of registering more than one color, how to sharpen tools, color mixing water-based inks, and printing different colors on two to four blocks. This class will stress a painterly approach to the woodblock printing process. Fee: $135 members, $160 non-members, $25 materials."

"Under an organization called Art-o-Mat (www.artomat.org), neglected vending machines are rescued — and rejiggered to dispense contemporary art. Works are original and come in packages roughly the size of a cigarette box — perhaps a pair of earrings, neatly boxed, or a glass ornament, or a 2-by-3-inch watercolor. ...

"For shoppers, it’s also about the thrill of discovery: Placards describe the contents, but you can’t be entirely certain what your artwork will look like until you pony up the cash. It’s “a more cultured approach to a vending machine,” says Matt Hand, an employee at the Washington store who is making woodblock prints to sell."
