Hi Bareners,

I'm moving up in size from a 9" x 12" block to a 12" x 16" block and am
having some difficulty with my paper hanshita. I've always found a certain
amount of stretching as the paper gets affixed to the block with paste, but
I've been able to adapt to it at smaller sizes. At this larger size it's
more of an issue for multiple block registration. If I keep increasing the
size of my prints, as I hope to do (not as big as Mike's, I assure you!), I
think I'm going to have to use a material other than paper for my hanshita.

Looking at the very excellent video that was posted by Keiji Shinohara a
couple of weeks ago
(http://learningobjects_devel.wesleyan.edu/blockprinting/) I learned that an
acetate hanshita is very stable and won't stretch, so I'm planning to try
it. My question is, has anyone else used acetate to transfer a design and if
so what have you used to affix it to the block? Mr. Shinohara uses
Spraymount, but I'd like to find something a little less noxious as I work
in my home. Any ideas?

An alphabet for exchange #31 sounds great.

Best, Annie

hello
I am new here and have been reading along for a couple of weeks.
It's very interesting conversation. I'm not sure I am responding correctly,
but I'd like to try and figure this out.

You all spoke of the next exchange coming up. I'm very curious and
considering
signing up. I did have 2 questions first. When speaking of the size of paper
-
the Japanese names are referring to the sizes - not types of paper, yes?
And second - Alphabet. Interesting - Everyone would carve a letter? or
something that relates to the Alphabet?

Thanks for you information! Enjoying looking at everyone's really great work!

I vote for alphabet either bound or un. Looks like I'm
not the only Letterhead here.

Everyone seems to be voting for the alphabet theme which sounds really
interesting to me... however, my preference would go for the 911 theme
bound book for two reasons: one is that I would like to have a book of
prints bound together, and the other which is the most important is do
a 911 print. I have already made a crumbling twin towers print for
another exchange just after 911... and now I would like to do one more
and see what imagery others can come up with.
Even if this time the
alphabet wins the theme of this exchange, why not keep the idea of 911
remembrance for the next themed exchange?

Dear Jennifer,

> When speaking of the size of paper - the Japanese names are referring to

YES
> And second - Alphabet. Interesting - Everyone would carve a letter?
YES -- if this is the consensus theme for #31, then alpha-characters would
be 'assigned' in order of sign-up, I suppose
