Robert, somehow I actually have managed to avoid getting too many cuts while carving.

Mike's tip of keeping both hands on the tool is good. It's hard to describe in words but with most tools you can have one hand do the pushing and the other hand helps guide and keep the tool from going too fast.

Also, another alternative to the bench hook is that cheap textury rubbery mat stuff they make that people put on shelves and such - you can find it at hardware stores or 99 cent stores or k mart or places like that. it sticks to the table and will also stick to the wood and pretty well keeps it in place. I use this stuff when I'm printing too.

stay safe and have fun!

Louise,
You must have missed it as it did go out several months ago, this is just a reminder for those who are dragging their feet...like me.
Best to all,

Robert, If you keep both hands on the tool it is pretty hard to cut yourself....so try this. I teach all my students of all ages to do this and it really really works. We have only used one band aid for one 5th grader in two years.
