Hi Mark,

My preferred wood for keyblocks (and everything else) is cherry. Go
hang around some cabinet-making shops or call up some furniture makers
& ask about scraps. My sis works in a big cabinet shop & gets all the
cherry that gets thrown into the dumpster or before it goes into a
chipper! Such sacrilege - chipping up all that gorgeous wood. I also
consider it an environmentally sound way to get wood - I don't cut down
trees or burn it - I turn it into a thing of beauty. (if I must say so
myself)

Greetings All,
As a novice woodcut artist I hesitate in posting, but feel I have something to add regarding the current thread of sourcing inexpensive, and environmentally responsible, wood for smaller prints. I recieved a huge number of Cherry off cuts from a hardwood floor that was layed by a friend. Anyone would do well to contact a friend in the construction industry to look out for flooring offcuts of the wood of your choice. The scrap from one job would potentially set you up for many years. If you have the ability to join wood than you can create some pretty large panels.
take care all and thank you for the inspiration this forum provides the novice,
Matt
