There is a fabulous show of Japanese books at the NYPL.
http://www.nypl.org/press/2006/ehonLL.cfm

It goes all the way from 7th century sutras to 20th century comics, with the
bulk of it centering on ukiyo-e period books. Almost all of the books are
printed using moku hanga, Japanese woodcut. The show includes some fabulous
Utamaro triptychs. Many of the prints we know and love were first issued as
books, yet are seldom seen in their original format.

Anyone in NY this season should try to see this, it is up until February 4,
2007.

And BTW, best wishes for the New Year to everyone at Baren!

To the Alphabet Bareners:

Before I commit a fatal cutting error I need to make sure about the margins.
Is it correct to leave an extra 1" on the right side of the paper, which
will wind up on the left to make room for the binding? But those not
intending to make a book will have uneven vertical margins. .
What was the decision? I would prefer to have a print with even left and
right margins and it isn't too late.
This is being resent because I don't think it got through the first time.
I'm so ready to go on to the next step.

To all the new and old Bareners,-- what good work!. It continually amazes
me, especially that you new people say that this is your first effort.

Here's hoping that you who had accidents recently have a quick
recuperation..Yes, you can work with the other hand , or foot, and lots of art doesn't
require pressure.

Hello Carol,

That was my understanding ... the prints should be oriented
vertically and have a 1 inch extra margin on the left to allow for
binding. But I would like to hear from Sharri and others for confirmation.

Cheers ...... Charles
