Hello,

My name is Tiberiu Chelcea, and I'm currently living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, working in computer science at a local university. I started doing woodcuts about 4 months ago -- but I think was interested in them for as long as I remember, just took the leap recently from admiring them to trying to make them. I'm mostly learning from books, and with the aid of the internet (also following the discussions at www.wetcanvas.com). So far, my method is a mix between western and japanese methods (mostly black and white prints, line-oriented a lot of times, on european paper -- but carved with traditional japanese tools, printed with water-based colors, burnished with a baren). I'm trying to learn to do color prints, so that's why the interest in Baren Forum.

Thank you for being accepted on the mailing list,
Tiberiu Chelcea

Welcome Tiberiu,

Glad to see another with a technical background doing artwork. Just
keep working at it and your skills will develop immensely. You will
find the folks on Baren to be very helpful if you encounter problems
or have questions.

Cheers ..... Charles

rhaman,

this is a great exhibit. i like the high-tech aspects of the site itself. and the work is really interesting.

aside from your fine collection, is there a museum of printmaking in malaysia?

Just wanted to know if there are Baren members planning to go to the SGC
conference in Kansas City this March? I've never been to one before, want
to go and am trying to fill out a mini-grant ap (school related) for the
event.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has attended a past conference, what
they're like, costs, etc. Thanks in advance.

I just added a small section to my growing website that I would like to share as I was particularly pleased with this project. The finished block was only 3 x 2 inches but is packed with detail:

Andy, I just loved your engraving and especially the information on how you accomplished said woodengraving.

I need all the help I can get and this was so informative that I printed it out so I can refer to it while I am attempting to engrave.

Beautiful work, as usual.

Hi Cindy,
The SCG conferences are excellent and you can learn a lot about
printmaking, all methods, not just woodcut. Register early to save
money and check out the discounts at the conference hotels. The Mid
America Print Council is a similar organization which also has a good
annual conference. Conferences are a good place to talk to colleagues
and students and see their latest research. There are demonstrations,
discussion panels and vendors booths to see materials and equipment.
Printmaking studios and shops in the vicinity of the conference
usually have open houses as do galleries which show prints.
I recommend the conferences.

Beautiful work Andy! Thank you so much for sharing. I've always been fascinated with book plates.
I have some questions - one of which is how do you transfer the image to the block?
