When selling your image, but retaining your right to make fine art prints of it (200 is the limit for fine art: after that it becomes commercial art), you ought to consider that if the image becomes really famous, (like the Campbell's soup cans), people might think you were ripping it off if you use it for your own fine art. Maybe it's better to sell the whole thing and kiss it goodbye.

Warhol was a designer, first and foremost. I think he made the mistake of telling people they could say anything they wanted about him, if they thought they could make money from it. It's amazing to me to read the reputed escapades of an artist with such staid art work. He just sat back and hardly said a thing, as you will recall. He could barely utter a word. He had no control over the people who flocked around him. They hurt him pretty bad too.

I saw him once. My ex and I went to an "underground" movie, which was an 8-hour movie of Henry Geldzheller sleeping in a hammock. The movie was called "Sleep." Andy Warhol and his superstars were sitting in the row right in back of us. My ex wanted to leave after 1/2 hour. I said, we can't leave, that's Andy Warhol sitting right in back of us. He said he didn't care, that it was boring.

Hey Jenn,
You know Maria has a book out on just this subject.
Art Fairs. She'd probably tell you how to get a copy.

It's a re-run HA!
Darn it! They didn't tell me they would be re-running the program, I have
digital recording now.

If anyone can come up with a fresh look at a woodcut and can withstand a
television crew in their studio for about 9 hours, I highly recommend the
experience. Just go to the HGTV website hgtv.com and find the link where
they want people to be on their shows.
I don't think they will go for another woodcut, but maybe a nature print? a
collagraph? a solar print? Barbara! you too can be on TV!!!!
I dunno...

Zippo is the answer to Barbara's sister's question. But I didn't have to pay
THEM either!

Maria
