Hi Davida,

Wow, your prints are beautiful. It was very interesting to read the
description of your process:
http://dcookprints.com/printinfo.html
You seem to have developed a process that's quite unique. First of
all, it sounds like your printing plate is flexible, which is so
different than what I know from working with a wood plate. I'm
imagining that you ink your plate and then place the plate face-down
onto the support (epoxy, MDF, or Yupo) rather than what I do, which
is place the support (paper) onto the face-up inked plate. Do you
print by hand, then? The depth you get on the epoxy prints is amazing.

Thanks for introducing yourself and sharing the link to your work.

Just wanted people to know that if they are in the Boston area over the next
month or so the Boston Printmakers Biennial is up at Boston University. One
of my Baren exchange images made it into the show. The reception yesterday
was nice, at least the last half hour that I was able to attend. I met Carol
Wax, the mezzotint queen, and Mauricio Lasanskyıs grandson, Ritchie. Lots of
nice relief work, too.

David,
You didn't say whether you were printing on wet or dry paper, and I'm
assuming it is dry. Try damp paper - just damp enough to feel cool
against your cheek. Damp paper will schlurp ink right off that plate
with a lot less elbow grease. It is worth a try. Use baking parchment
or newsprint between the paper and baren. Your luck may be different,
but I've tried sanding, shellac, varnish, et al, and none of it made
much difference in the look of my print.

Davida,
Your prints are amazing and the process very interesting and certainly
innovative - a whole new approach to printmaking. I would love to see
them in person! Welcome to the group.

Cheers ~

Hi Sharri,

Yes, it was dry paper. Thanks for the tip...does Japanese paper take
better to being damped than thick European stuff, d'you think?

all the best,
