Hi,

If anyone is passing through or near Merced, California (USA) there is a
printmaking exhibit at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center.

California Centered: Printmaking
645 W. Main St, Merced, CA 905340
www.artsmerced.org
209-388-1090

Feb 9 through Mar 31, 2007

I went to see it last night. The show is a mix of techniques, lots of
monoprints, etching, screened, some litho, quite a few linoblocks and one
woodblock (my submission).

Just a comment on doing printmaking as a fine and not a graphic artist.
Wondering about the differences as in my experience the history of
printmaking makes it more a graphic art than a fine art. I know the line is
fexible and very slim. But I approach my woodcuts with less of a desire to
have my prints smooth, square and perfect. I seem to like some of my blocks
left with a rough surface and in irregular shapes. If I were in the graphic
arts I should think I would have been trained to design logos and use
traditionally square, smooth surfaces. As a fine artist, trained as a
painter, I was trained to step out and try new approaches. The more unusual
and different a piece is the more likely it will receive interesting
reviews???? Either way it is amazing how many different ways there are to
portray one simple subject, the boar or pig, just amazing.

Hi everyone,
I had a message from Georga Garside, but there was
no return address. Just where the address should be.
Anyone have a more up to date address for Georga?

Thanks,
Wanda

Hi Ellen,

D'you mean to the Baren's own blog or to the individual ones? I'm sure
the latter have had quite a few updates lately...

cheers,
