sharri, thanks for your post about how you keep the prints and about putting the name with each print as you get them. I have been keeping mine in booklets with archival plastic sleeve-type pages but sometimes I forget who has sent what card because as you mentioned, some folks don't even sign them.

I send to everybody on the list and I'm happy to receive whatever cards come to me in exchange, early or late :)

just to add my two cents...

i LOVE that the chinese new year cards trickle in all through out the
year. the whole year is the year of the boar, one should be able to
send them anytime. i hope everyone who has gotten one from me has enjoyed
it as much as i've enjoyed getting theirs...

i totally understand. between my job and school i dont have much time left. i havent signed up for any more exchanges except for the new year one and that i have been in since the beginning in 2000. so i will continue somehow. i may not get the dog and pig sent out until summer but i will get them out
where will your exhibit be? good luck! i was just part of a group show here in pomona.
its funny because yesterday i was thinking of you and portland and how much fun the summit was. i was telling some friends how beautiful portland is also.

Gads guys I did not mean to create a war here. I just wanted to give the
slackers a BIG PUSH. I love the New Years card exchange. I was simply in
shock with the number who had signed up. So when I counted the 23 that I
had recieved I felt used. Like hey sign up for this exchange and get free
wood block prints and they do not care if you ever give one back. Last year
when this topic surviced I said hey I do not have time to keep track and
this is fun, but gad guys you are sending out a lot and I mean a lot more
than you are getting back. If I want to donate to a charity I want to
choose it. This is suposed to be an exchange. This is May and 2/3 rds of
the list have not sent out cards. I was shocked. Guess this is one
exchange that is fun but not worth it to me any more. You will get this
year and no more, I am tired of being used.. Since we have been retired we
have never found more people who use others, ever in life, sad world we live
in. I will not pay over $60. to people who give me nothing, I will choose
where to donate my money. Thanks for your cards.

Subject: [Baren 33294] Chinese paper
Send Message: To this poster

Greetings all! (and excuse the double-post to two groups to those on
both)

In case anybody was wondering how my first wood engraving for some time
was getting on, well it's virtually done bar any tidying up that a
final quick proof may show! It's taken forever because of not being
able to devote much time to art 'for me' at the moment...but this
weekend I'll take over the kitchen for a printing session! :-)
I had been wondering what paper to use for hand-burnishing a wood
engraving; looking on Lawrence's site there's a bewildering array. Any
words of wisdom from you good people will be most welcome. In the
meantime, my Mum has given me a pack of Chinese paper, about 18 1/4 " x
12 1/4 " and I'm going to try that. I was intrigued by the cover sheet
it came with...it looks like a woodcut and all the wording is Chinese.
I'd love to know more about it. It's on my blog if you think you could
help: http://studio-window.blogspot.com/

In the meantime I'll post my finished print after the weekend. I've
already had a couple of ideas of what to do for my next block. I need
to also pick your brains about transferring my drawing to the end grain
block.

Now back to the 'day job'.....sigh.....

Thanks
Sue

What a tiring weekend! I just spent two days talking about moku hanga (moku
= wood; hanga = printmaking). Each year there is a Japanese Cherry Blossom
Festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where I demonstrate the technique.
This year I had a big exhibition as well. I posted some photos of the show
at the address above. The show runs through next weekend, May 6, if anyone
will be near Brooklyn!

Now my month is over, Happy May to all.
