I have run reproductions of my watercolors and I believe one or two prints
on my HP printer. I do these for cards for friends birthdays. So the sizes
are reduced. I have found acid free card stock goes through the printer
well and the finish is matte.
I too have seen reproductions of one's art being sold. Have a friend who
does local festivals and she sells copies that are done on a copy machine
and labeled copies. She told me a funny story about it. She had a customer
buy one that was matted and the customer wanted to know if the mat was acid
free. My friend wanted to know why someone would put a copy, on copy paper
into an acid free mat???? People really are uneducated about art, prints
and copies.
There is nothing illegal about selling these. The only thing I would say is
that it might be hurting the print market for original hand pulled prints
because these would be priced much lower and people like to spend less money
for what they get. So many people are truly uneducated about what a print
is.

There isn't anything illegal or inmoral or unethical about selling inkjets
of any image you own. Artists have to eat before they are dead.
I don't subscribe to the belief that making reproductions devalues anyone's
real artwork and definitely not the artworks of others. The reproductions
themselves are cheap because they are cheaply and quickly produced, as
opposed to the "real" artwork.

I also don't subscribe to the belief that the public is all that uneducated
either. Many simply don't care how images are produced. When they find out
how woodcuts are produced, they pay for them. When they find out how an
inkjet is produced, they don't want to pay much. I honestly don't think
anyone will be able to make a living from inkjet reproductions of multiples.
IMHO, the solution to making a living as an artist is to sell better art,
not more quantities of cheaper copies of art.

Art is art and a picture of art is a picture of art. The way I figure it,
I'm an artist, not a photo-copier. When people come to my booth and ask me
if I sell reproductions I tell them if they want a picture of my art, they
are welcome to take one or download from the web. It's not art. It's a
picture of art and worth nothing to me. They can download 12 and make a
calendar for all I care.
Something I heard at another forum, "if it was meant to be easy to produce,
they wouldn't call it artWORK."
