David Harrison et al -

Horrors! this mistakenly went to the baren list - I thought I was
replying to Nancy - I do apologize for casting slurs on my former
home - but so many friends were complaining about various services
and the prevalence of 'louts' etc and this summer the newspapers (as
is the case everywhere) were so busy trashing everything espec the
Spanish ownership of the BAA being responsible for the state of
Heathrow - mind you the Toronto airport is no great shakes altho'
newly renovated and nationally owned (I assume) ....

once more many apologies for being so off topic and unwittingly offensive...

EXCHANGE #35 IS OPEN FOR SIGN-UP. This is a themed exchange, but so far as
I know, only ONE Baren Member has replied to my September 5th request for
THEME suggestions for Exchange #35 (which quietly opened for sign-up this
morning (without theme still to be determined).

"Are we all still looking for a topic for the next exchange? May I suggest
"story-telling"? I don't know if this is too broad or vague -- but it is
just a start." (Renee Augrin)

"Story Telling" is a decent theme. So is "Fairy Tales". Maybe you'd care
to suggest another theme? Or vote for (or against) someone else's? I'll
appreciate ALL your replies and your guidance!

Exchange #35 sign-up at http://barenforum.org/exchange/exchange_sign-up.html

Thanks for all the great suggestions, moku hanga people!

I never understood the "carrier sheet" idea up until now. I thought
it went *under* the paper, so I couldn't imagine how the paper was
then released onto the block. So here's a new question: what size
(thickness) is the mylar you use, Lynita?

Dave, thanks for the reference to the photos on your site. Looking
back over your notes from when you were making the scroll print, I
noticed how you adapted the kento marks for that large print,
changing the traditional corner kento into a notch on the front of
the block (or jig, as in your setup):
http://woodblock.com/scroll/progress/08_12.html
That's perfect, because then your hands can stay more toward the
center of the paper to hold a nice curve. I think that will solve my
problem, at least at this size. It looks challenging but do-able.

Working in pieces is a good option, too. I'll probably try that
sometime, too. Carol, do you know what "they" use to adhere the
pieces to each other?

Sharri, your unrolling-with-the-nose technique sounds like something
I would invent! Where's the video when we need it??

Well, printing is a long way off yet. My wood is scheduled for
delivery tomorrow, so the hanshita is my first order of business.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,
Annie

Hi all,

I would like to vote for story-telling or fairy tales.

I have been only lurking for the summer but now that the massive renovation on the yard is virtually complete I plan to pursue more creative efforts indoors for awhile :o)
Oh but it is so rewarding, digging in the dirt.
