Hi All,

I normally try to keep my conservator-life separate from my art-life but
I do feel the need to inject a word of warning here.

Any self adhesive material will degrade over time.

Double sided tapes, ph neutral or not are no exception. "Archival" is a
marketing term that has little to no relation to the properties of a
product over its lifetime.

I have seen far too many beautiful works destroyed by these tapes.

I just finished treating an album where someone used "archival double
sided tape" to adhere the photos to the pages. The adhesive was on a
Japanese paper substrate and over the past few years the adhesive had
migrated into the surrounding paper like a horrible oil stain, the works
are ruined and there is nothing to be done about it AND the adhesive
didn't even work as the images were falling off. I have also seen these
tapes seep though clay coated litho stock. If I could post images I
would.

Please be careful! In the long run the adhesives used for centuries are
the ones we know will last.

As some of you seem to know Michael Schneider from the Southern Graphics
Conference, and now that he and I were in an exhibition in Sweden which is
linked to the book Printmaking at the Edge, I thought that you might be
interested to see the Flickr pool of images linked to that exhibition.

I think the exhibition is still on if any of you happen to be going in the
direction of Falun in Sweden

I haven't done an exchange yet, but like the tall
tales/storytelling/fairytales theme. Perhaps this is a good way to get my
feet wet with editions. :)

And if you haven't had a chace to check it out yet, take a peek at the
progress on the Periodic Table Printmaking Project:
http://home.comcast.net/~clarksbarn/periodic/elements.html
I have fewer than 20 left to receive in my hot little hands and then can
start submitting it to places. (Ideas or suggestions welcomed!)

If the subject is still up for voting: how about "Map" (or "Maps"). Could be interpreted in several ways, either incorporating a map into the print (Annie Bissett would have a head start here should she decide to sign up:) or images derived from actual maps.
