Help!!! My beautiful ball-bearing baren is some rust developing on the ball bearings, a result of it not being used while I was away for 3-plus weeks. The package I had it in was slightly open and the humidity has gotten to it.

Does anyone know the best way to re-condition it without major problems? Will WD-40 or oiling it do the trick? I certainly don't want to take it apart as I'd probably never get it back together again.

Try using it on heavy, brown paper bags, which are
about equal to 1500 grit sand paper, until the visible
rust is gone and the barens don't leave rust marks on
soft white paper. After the rust is polished off,
lube the baren with whatever is recommended by your
normal printing method,

Cheers, Eli

That sounds very reasonable, Eli. Thanks! The rust isn't much but some of those little bearings just don't roll like they should. I'm off to try this out and will let you know how I fare...

I use the ball bearing baren and had a clogging problem, not a rust problem.
Last time I called McClains and asked them what to do about it. Sorry I
can't help because I forgot what they advised.
Carol L.
And Harry good luck on your exciting exhibit coming up. Your work looks
terrific.
