Vinyl tiles are an excellent medium for printmaking. The illustrator John Lawrence uses them and he gave the idea to my old friend Pamela Hughes. I have a pile of them that were left in her studio after her death. She used a mixture of engraving and woodcutting tools on them. Towards the end, her back caused her too much pain to hand burnish so she ran the vinyl through the etching press. She used standard 12 inch square tiles, cut down vertically to make a tall, narrow images.

I can't find an image of a vinyl print of Pam's online. Some of you will know her wood engravings. Here is a large colour linocut:

James, a wee bairn, did you say? Well, gosh, that's as exciting news
as any I can imagine.

A lovely, lyrical print! I imagine you did a lot of needling on
that. Are you still working in pine?

James Mundie - they're amazing and look more like engravings to me?!
What creates the pattern or texture of cuts in the self portrait?
you do indeed look like a Scot 9about to storm Hadrian's Wall?!)

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the U.S. of A.
