Guadalupe,

Welcome to Baren. And welcome to all the other new members that I am not
mentioning, it is hard to catch up when you are gone! You are one of those
special Mexicans who get a good education and return to your country to do
wonderful things for your people. I am impressed and look forward to seeing
your work. I wish my place in Mexico was closer to the border for mailing, I
would do more exchanges. From Baja it is just not realistic to mail things
to the states. So, Chinese Year of the rat members, my rat is ready to carve
and I, probably, will start today, but it will not go into the mail until
late spring when I return to the states. I look forward to getting those
straggling pigs and early rat cards when I return. If I have missed sending
out a piggy to anyone I will try to catch up on that too!!!

Harry, loving your last 2 dragon prints. Glad you are still doing them,
they are wonderful!

Marilynn from both Nahcotta Washington, USA and Baja Sur, Mexico

A very happy New Year to all of you. This is how I spent the day around New Years eve and day. A reduction lino cut where I employed the registration method used in woodcut printing. Worked like a charm. Also found that cutting lino with wood carving chisels was like cutting soft butter. I had to give the woodcutting a rest for a few months as a result of cutting an cheap piece of ply with very irregular glueing between the layers; the combination of relatively soft wood and the almost glassy hardness of the glue caused a severe jarring in the shoulder and back while cutting resulting in five months of physio and chiropracter manipulation. Lesson....use solid wood or at least good quality ply.

Wouter,

Thanks for sharing the stages of your print. It is always fascinating to me to see how others work. How did you execute the actual printing ... press, wooden spoon, baren???

Cheers ...... Charles
