Carol,
I thought copy right laws were international???
I ran into a person who owns a condo here that said her friend is a
wonderful artist. This friend of hers could copy anyone's work. She said
that if she saw a painting that she liked and it was priced into the
thousands that her friend would copy it for her, for $500. I told her that
was illegal and a violation of copy right laws. Apparently she got the
image from the internet to copy. So watch out, there are violations of copy
rights out there.

There are international agreements and frameworks for co-operation, but laws
are designed and enacted country-by-country. They do differ one from another,
even if they're broadly similar in purpose.

I want to apologize to any of you who may have received my postcards with
postage due. Over the weekend I dropped the bundled envelopes in the drop
off at the closed post office; I knew that there would be a pick up later
and I wanted them to have a Feb 2nd postmark.

Monday when the post office was open I took the international cards in to
be posted. Thats when they told me that cellophane envelopes required a
surcharge. This was news to me! When I bought the envelopes I was told
they were postal approved. I've mailed art and postcards in cellophane
several for years and was never charged a surcharge before. I've also
received many other barener's cards in cellophane without extra postage or
requests for postage due. Well I was told by the postal worker that the
ones I dropped off may be delivered with postage due since they no longer
return mail to the sender.

Why all the trouble, apparently the reflective cellophane can't be read by
machine ...ARRRGH!!! what would they have done if I had hand written the
envelopes--I can guarantee that my sloppy script can't be machined either!
Which is why you may still receive it without postage due...the worker told
me that they may have been accepted in the past because I put an address
label on the outside, because of that the machine can probably read it.
Geeeeez the aggravation they gave me may have been for naught...but just in
case I apologize in advance...

Cheers,
Patti

Don't worry. All your cards came with no problem. Great cards! Thanks,

We are not currently stocking carborundum.? We are looking at carrying aluminum oxide as a substitute.? There is a general ban from insurance companies on anything containing silica.? It's unfortunate - there is silica in so many things, including those little packets in your aspirin and vitamins.? It's something of an over-reaction, I think, but we can't sell a product that won't be covered by insurance.

I realise that, to most of the established printmakers at Baren Forum, selling a print is all part of a day's work, but I just had to wave a little flag because in the same week that I became a Dad for the first time, I've also just sold my first woodblock print! It was one of my Year of the Rat cards which I'm selling on Etsy.(I printed more than I needed for the New Year exchange)

The print was also kindly featured on a fellow Etsy sellers blog: www.tatsukocraft.blogspot.com

What a week!

Mark.

Congratulations Mark. It is always nice to have that confirmation that someone else appreciates our work enough to actually plunk down hard cash.

On the other hand, my friend Marles Chorgan sells several million dollars worth of his stuff every year, and he tells me he no longer gets that rush ....

Cheers ....... Charles

Patti!
It's okay, [regarding possible postage due] -- they made it here to Seattle no problem. I've also received, in cellophane envelopes, three or four other assorted rats, and pigs (love 'em, love 'em). They all just have 41 cents postage.
Personally, I think it has to do with your post office, or more specifically, one person at your post office. If they run it thru and postmark it, no one else along the route is gonna care. Soooo, don't annoy the postal people, be polite and submissive. Say, yes ma'am, yes sir...bow alot. But most important of all - don't use your cell phone in the post office - in fact, leave it in your car! Just the sound of a cell phone ringing (or singing) sends them over the edge and it's no telling what will happen next.
Happy Printing!
