Thanks for the information, Tom. I urge you to try a few experiments with actual sandblast carving (as opposed to simple grain enhancement) and keep us posted on the results.

Charles alternative printmaking is a great source of inspiration to me. A
while back I got taken by the beautiful (and sometime unusual) stone
carvings at the local cemetery....for a while there I was sneaking around
doing 'rubbings' off 100 year old stones when no one was around.....I
collected a quite a few (50+) and eventually I like to get these rubbings
transferred to archival paper and even perhaps run an edition of prints
based on this theme.

Another alternative 'printmaking' project I have 'on hold' is capturing
the images of simple objects we find in our everyday lives......for
example manhole covers fascinate me...there is such a diversity and many
go back 50-100 years.... then there are manhole covers from other
countries:

Maria, the Cairn project is looking great....can't wait to see the prints
!!!

Finally, best wishes for a speedy recovery to our good friend Wanda. We
miss you !

Mineo Yamamoto does lovely nature prints, but he uses the indirect method ... spread cloth over subject and dab with ink ... much like doing rubbings. He has done some interesting manhole covers in Japan.

Nice to hear you share my fascination with printing everyday things!!!

I, too, would like to add my warm wishes for a speedy recovery for Wanda.

Since this is a fairy tale exchange, many of you might like (in addition to
describing your process) to TELL THE STORY OF YOUR FAIRY TALE - if I get
enough good stories, I'll compile the stories and images into a PDF booklet
(printable) authored by all of us - that'd be pretty FUN, I think - might
take the place of the old gallery or might be in addition to. Anyway - take
all the space you want and let your print illustrate your story!!!

Thanks to all 27 of you who (so far) have gotten your prints to me in a
reasonably timely fashion, to MOST of you who included return labels,
postage or money, especially to a few of you who sent along special little
printy gifts (much appreciated) and for putting up with all my coordinator
WHIP CRACKING e-mails. You're going to LOVE each other's work, I think! As
usual, there's quite a range in technique, aesthetic, and printmaking level,
but overall the artwork is fabulous and there are several (to my eye)
absolute GEMS this time - WOWEY WOW WOW! You can start getting excited now!

We may have left a few printers behind, I'm afraid, but this exchange will
go out pretty close to ON TIME - we've have been slipping behinder and
behinder for a LONG time and we really need to get back to timely mailings!

Now I gotta get started photographing all your work and getting that
colophon assembled!!!!

Best,

Mike
