Thanks Charles. I think you are right, that is all I need to start. I have
a book some where in the states on nature printing, it does not discuss this
indirect method. For a painter turned printmaker I can see a strong tie
here, painting with daubers on cloth using many colors of pigment, what fun.
Also, as a seamstress, well you get the idea. I see a new body of work
coming as soon as my exchange print is finished.

Good morning bareners....
I am happy to report that Wanda is home from the
hospital and although she is sleeping a lot, she is
much better. Her family says they are very encouraged.
I sent her flowers from the Baren, an orchid, which
she loves. So she will know we are all thinking or her
and wishing her a speedy recovery back to her saucy
self.
My best to all

Subject: sandblasting

I just have a terrible time trying to figure out how to post to Baren. So I mostly lurk. I actually did try to post this but gave up.

In order to sandblast wood or any other material, first the substrate is covered with a rubber mask. The mask has to be cut and the substrate exposed in order to sandblast. I don't see the point in taking that next step of sandblasting. Once the mask has been cut, why not just ink it and print it? It cuts easily either with a plotter (which I use for signs) or an Xacto knife. The mask sticks well and will stay put without wrinkling or pulling up. It seems that it could be run through a press or printed by hand. If applied to the correct thickness of substrate it could even be type high for letterpress.

I'm really jammed up for a couple more weeks, but when I have the time I'll do a little experiment.

do you see what I mean?

Another beautiful day here.
Hope it was there too.
C.

Hi printers
I have never had much luck making rice paste in the past so I have come up with my own recipe.
2 tsp. rice starch (Lineco is what I'm using)
1/4 cup water
put into small jelly jar cover with lid and ring just making jelly
shake to mix
put jar into a pot of boiling water with rack in the bottom or fashion one
use enough water to cover jar
boil hard for 1/2 hour or so make sure jar stays covered with water
remove from pot
let cool

Hello Baren Members .
I want to print for Baren #36 exchange in Fabriano but my paper could take a 25 x 25 cm or
9.89 x 9.89 inches.

Is this a problem? I hope Wanda is felling better now. I am a new member, sorry.
Best Regards, Guadalupe
