Thanks Dave so much for pointing us to all those fantastic Year of the Rat/Mouse prints.

What a wonderfully diverse collection of images, and so very many with such a joy of life and lightness of touch.

I noticed a tribute to the Toba Animal Frolic Scrolls (2 mice hiding behind a kimono clad rabbit).

The sheer variety of fresh, colourful images and techniques makes the whole of Matsumura-san's gallery pages such a great catalogue of art and artists and an inspiration to anyone interested in Japanese water-based printing methods. (I've dropped an email to say thanks.)

Are all the artists amateur printmakers, because some of them look very professional? I'd like to see more of their work if possible. Is there a Japanese "Etsy" type site where any of these artists exhibit?

Thanks again.

Mark.

It's a total mix ... from complete amateurs, up to work from
professional studios.

Well, none of these would ever be for sale ... they are new year cards,
not commercial prints. But if you'd like to see a bunch more prints ...
how about these pages:

http://www.alps.or.jp/match/gallery/kikaku02/index.html
(To see more, change the 02 in that link to 03 04 05 ... etc., up to 12)

These are prints from classes run by Gosho-san the baren maker ...

Hi - thanks, Dave
I, too enjoyed viewing the cards and sent a note....it's interesting
that most of them are so colourful,
playful and lighthearted .. I think there are mouse stories we aren't
acquainted with..
e.g. many with mice carrying off bundles of??

We are looking for a recipe to make a large amount of ink (maybe 4 gallons) a giant woodblock print that would be water clean-up. We were going to use glycerine for the retarding agent, but are having a hard time finding it.

Do any of Bareners have a suggestion?Yours,Le Green-SchubertStoneMetal Press Printmaking Center227-0312www.stonemetal-press.com

Re: Baren Exchange 36

I am still waiting for responses to my last email from the following:

> Aeleen Frisch
> Mary Kuster
> Jeanne Norman Chase
> Heather Piazza
> Bridget Pilip
> Sharen Linder
> Kathe Welch
> John Center
> Barbara Patera

John Center, my last 2 emails to you bounced back. I assume the
others of you have gotten my reminders.

Again I am reminding you that your PRINTS ARE DUE ON MAY1, 2008.
That is ONE WEEK AWAY. If you haven't put them in the mail yet, you
should be doing so very soon.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE SENDING YOUR PRINTS ON TIME.
IF YOU WILL NOT BE GETTING THEM TO ME ON TIME, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS
SOON AS POSSIBLE.

I a really hoping that all of the prints will arrive soon, and that
there will not be a delay in getting the exchange out. I have
received some fine prints so far and am looking forward to the rest.
You will be glad you are in this exchange.

Thanks,

Carole Baker

Hi Carole,

I am just recovering from a terrible virus/flu thing that just knocked
me out. My prints are almost done and should not be too late, maybe
only a couple of days. Sorry. Could not be helped.
