Maria your links to the Rockler company came up with a page that stated that
either the product was moved to another page or no longer being carried. I
would think an affordable power shapener would be a handy thing to have, the
last one I looked at ran around $500. and that is way out there. I have
learned to use my stones and keep the bevel at the right angle, but it does
take patience and practice. The leather strop is good and handy for touch
ups during a carving session and I have the one with the grooves in it to
make life a bit easier. The ceramic water stone I have is excellent to use
before one starts out and I just go through all my knives and check and
sharpen as they certainly perform better. For chips I have an inexpensive
heavy grit stone, one day I will invest in the ceramic heavier weight stone.
One can use cheaper products but those nice ceramic water stones are
marvelous. My tool man husband got a hold of mine and loved it! If you wait
until you have to send a tool out than you are loosing carving strength with
it, because one should sharpen frequently to keep the blade working at its
maximum. It is best to practice on your cheaper knives and learn the skill!
I am leaving to head north today, so bye for about 2 weeks. Cut print and be
happy.
